I had a PODxt when they first came out--too fizzy for my taste. That sounds a LOT better. I may have to get another one and upgrade to the 2.0 firmware. They also have a new "Model Pack" thing where you can purchase additional blocks of amp and effects models for the PODxt, with a focus on more metal-oriented amps. Cool stuff.

How were the cleans? I'm seriously considering picking one up tomorrow. I already own a GNX, but that disto tone he's getting is exactly what I'm looking for.

Besides, it's only $300, and that's G.A.S. ultra-light.

The PODxt has *awesome* clean sounds--as good as any other processor I've heard. The vintage Fender simulations are surprisingly convincing. And you can get a really sparkling modern clean sound, ala Petrucci, as well. The cleans really sucked on the original POD, but not on the xt.

My problem with the initial version of the PODxt was the heavy distortions--which is where most of the complaints have come from. Here were my issues:

1. a 'fizziness' to the sounds that couldn't be dialed away. Guys with outboard EQs were able to dial a lot of this away by getting rid of the ultra-high frequencies that aren't naturally part of a guitar sound--but you can't do that from within the unit itself.

2. You had to use strange combinations of the stomp box simulations in the unit to get a really juicy distortion out of it. And it never quite got juicy enough for me.

3. No pre or post parametric EQ built in--getting a convincing scooped-mid sound was damn near impossible, because the higher the gain went, the more overwhelming the bottom end became, making it impossible to do good palm-muted rhythm guitar.

They supposedly have smoothed the sounds a lot in v.2, and added a post-gain parametric EQ section.--though a pre-gain EQ might almost be more useful for metal sounds. Now I have a Furman parametric EQ, though, so that wouldn't be an issue for me.

line 6 done

you all know that all the designers from Line 6 left the company over a year ago they took all their new ideas and started a new company...www.damagecontrolengineering.com have some preamps that are out of this world you must look into them. I hear from these people that Line 6 have no new versions of line ware. 2.3,2.0 etc..it will be the highest they go...The designers took that technology with them...MMMmmm is that why most of the new line 6 stuff is different model with same or limited sounds?? I think so....i am under the impression that line 6 are done with new technology and Damage Control Engineering is going to blow the doors of em'
