Good speakers for poweramp?

Hey guys. I could potentially get a pretty good deal (sub-$150) on a 300-watt Peavey power amp, but before I pull the trigger I'd like to know what you guys think about the choices for cabs/speakers for such a device. I'm planning on running my PODxt Live (eww, I know) straight into the power amp.

I don't need anything absolutely stunning sounding right now, and I'm not likely to hit that kind of stuff until I can hopefully afford tube gear in a few years. Right now I need something moderately loud that can cut in a show environment, though I'll probably run the other output from the PODxt into the house mixer.

Let me know what you guys think. This forum really amazes me. Not only is it the best seven-oriented site I've seen, it's also the best guitar-(or music-) related forum I've found.

If you're planning to run direct to the PA too, I'd suggest taking advantage of the cabinet models in the POD and getting a pair of 12" PA speaker cabs. It's pretty easy to find these rated at 150W or more and they won't cost a lot either. This way your tone from the cabs and through the PA will sound the same.

thanks

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. Hopefully I can find something that doesn't look too PA-ish. Am I correct when I assume two 150W PAs being driven by this thing will be insanely loud?

Edit: OK, I've managed to confuse myself. Here is the product in question. I have no idea what's actually going on, and if the 150W rating is for each input or both summed, or what the ideal setup would be. If any of you could help me out, it would be really really cool.

It's a bit ambiguous, but as it's a 300 series I'm guessing it's 150W per output. You could always try e-mailing Peavey tech support to find out. TO be on the safe side though I'd go with a pair of 150W rated speakers with 8ohm impedance. The minimum load is 4ohms and the speaker jacks are wired in parallel, hence you need 8ohm speakers.
