Best silent bedroom recording setup?

Hey guys,
Just curious...if money was not an option and you had to jam/record in your bedroom with headphones, what would the ideal setup be to get a very good sounding metal tone?

Honestly I love my Podhd400. It is extremely versatile and can get just about every tone. I think you should look into the Podhd series. They are great pieces of win. They come in floorboard, rack, and desktop bean shapes. I have the floorboard model and i find that that suits me the best. They all excel in different applications. Bottom line i think you should be looking at some type of modeler.

Money wasn't an option for me and I bought an Axe FX II.

Nothing really comes close from what I've played.. and I've only had it for 5 days and barely scraped the surface of it.

Semi-budget: Axefx Ultra
Budget: Pod HD series

These are your best bet!

The headphone output in the Axe-FX II alright. I kinda prefer the headphone out on my Kemper. Neither of them replace a good headphone amp though.

Don't count out the GSP1101 (rack unit) for those on a tighter budget - my friend's got one and it works quite nicely.

If money wasn't an option I would say industrial grade sound proofing and isolation cabs, and a 'floating' floor under the cab to absorb the bass vibrations. :p

but for the sake of discussion. I would say an axe fx2 into a UAD apollo into some crazy spec'd out 32gb ram pc (yes, pc for more compatibility)/

axe fx 2 or kempler into decent size studio monitors. One will do the trick if you dont care about going stereo with effects

Hey,
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what the benefit is of running the Axe through a UAD apollo interface, rather than going straight into the computer via USB? Will it make the sounds coming out of the Axe sound much better? Is the USB out and the headphone output jack not showing the full potential of it?

... if you had an axe II there is no reason not to use it as your sound card for recording. THe axe will never sound great through headphones. the guitar needs to physically hear itself through monitors or a cab for it to sound good.

Damn....well that's what I get for living in an apartment with thin walls... maybe I should start looking for another place to live where I can crank the sound up through some monitors :P

Thats the thing! you dont have to crank up the monitors for them to sound great its not like a cab. I think you will be fine.

No, this is a good question. A stock computer soundcard is not very ideal for recording because it will induce a lot of latency, pops and clicks. Honestly, as far as sound quality goes for sound cards there is no difference between a $100 soundcard and a $800 one. You are really just paying for more features (eg. midi ports, more inputs, xlr ect). I have heard the headphone jack on the axe fx does not sound the best, but this is not relevant when recording. What is relevant is the sound being produced in your daw and what you are using to perceive it. In an ideal situation you would have a room with the golden ratio with monitors that would give you very accurate results of what is being processed. If you have a not so ideal room then you are bound to have your monitors low end exaggerated and your high end eaten up. This is when I think a nice pair of headphones will do you more justice!
