![]() ![]() | Finally Well tomorrow (early this morning actually) is finally the day I get some real gear. We're almost finished with our recording studio that we made in our house. I'm picking up a peavey 6505 along with the mesa 4x12 cab with the vintage 30's in it. I'm also going to order me a d sonic 7 pickup for my K7 as well just for the hell of it I mean they are cheap enough. I was going to go with the mesa road king but it's too expensive for what I need and honestly I still prefer that raw in your face distortion that the 6505 delivers. Don't get me wrong the Mesa distortion sounds beautiful but something keeps bringing me back to the peavey. I should have the neighbors complaining in no time. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Awesome A 6505 with a cab loaded with V30's, you can't go wrong with it. I use a Marshall 2X12" cab with V30's with my 6505. I have a Mesa Rectifier and a Peavey 6505 and I rarely use the Mesa. The Mesa is an awesome amp, but the Peavey just sounds so angry, has a tight low end and is very bright and focused. Yeah, the clean tones are quite bad on the 6505, but it is very versatile when it comes to distorted tones. And many of my favourite sounding albums have been recorded with a 5150/6505. For example Machine Head's The More Things Change and Carcass' Heartwork. ( Of course Colin Richardson can make a cowbell sound heavy as hell...) I hope to hear some clips when you get it! Oh and ps. I really recommend using an overdrive pedal as a booster with this amp, if you haven't allready tried one. A TubeScreamer is pretty much the industry standard and almost all of the "big" metal producers and bands use OD pedals to tighten up the guitar tones. |

![]() ![]() | Well I got home with my new gear and man what a bitch it was to set up. I was so damn dissapointed in the tone and everything about it I thought I had made a mistake in buying it. It didn't have that ballsy gritty in your face tone at all. I finally got it set up pretty decent messing with the presence. Finally it sounded decent so I cranked it up to 2. I was like holy shit this is nice. Then I noticed that my dumb ass left the wheels on the bottom of it. So I took them off it now sits right on the carpet. Holy shit talk about a night and day difference. I have it sounding pretty damn close to otep's latest album. Listen to the beginning of the song "Sepsis" to get an idea of what I am talking about. This fucker rocks. I couldn't get it past 2 on the volume I can still barely hear. Oh yeah this thing is ready to kick ass. I can't wait for my d sonic 7 to come in should make it sound even meaner.![]() Out of curiosity does the group "Otep" use peavey amps? because I sware the tone I'm getting off my 6505 is very similar. It's also very similar to "Throwdown" even though they are not one of my favorite bands. I'll be borrowing a tube screamer soon to try it out. Last edited by Hellbound; 01-05-2007 at 10:56 PM. ![]() ![]() | Congrats on the 6505 dude & in answer to your Questions yeah Both Throwdown & Otep use 5150's when recording. If you wanna hear what the 5150 sounds like with the OD808 upfront just click on the Drag The Lake link & it'l take you to my Bands Myspace profile & Listen to the song called Fragments of unbecoming, it's still only roughly mixed so its quite raw sounding but i'm quite pleased with the results. |

I need to get in a band badly. I have some killer gear I'll start posting signs or something I'm in the New Orleans area surely someone is looking for a guitar player for heavy brutal music.Man I've got alot to learn. I'm using the lead instead of rhythm to give me the serious mega distortion I'm getting it sounds absolutely violent. I thought rhythm was made for that but when I used the rhythm it was alot tamer sounding. So am I setting it up backwards?

Cheers dude, some of my favourite bands are from New Orleans, CROWBAR being may all time fave. I use the lead channel too & thats the only way for me to get the sound i want from the 5150, I've been told that the Rhythm channel sounds great with a Tubescreamer up front but I prefer the lead channel with a Tubescreamer it's got alot more Bite & Grind. I just turn down the Gain a little on the Amp & boost the front end with the OD & it tears your Head off & gives alot more clarity & focus to the Distortion.
