howdy! what part of Ohio?

well, i've heard good and bad things about BBE. nothing really conclusive. you'll have to try one out, and let us know how it goes. can you borrow one from a friend, or take one out from a store on loan?

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

I have the Behringer Equivalent, and well I like it, you got tweakables like surround sound and bass boost, and intensity levels geared towards electric or acoustic instruments

I've used the BBE in both live applications (including w/ a Dual Rec) and with studio use. With studio use it can be cool, mainly with direct recording applications. It can help give a little clarity and punch to some mediocre recordings, but it's more a band-aid than anything. With live use I think it's pretty horrible. It really squishes your tone, compresses it and crushes some of the dynamics. I used it with a Dual Rectifier a long time ago when that was my main rig, and it sounded and more importantly felta lot better without it.

If you want something to improve your tone, get a Tube Screamer or something. Leave the BBE out.

I'm from atlanta, but I moved to Ohio about 3 years ago. I live in a small hole called Upper sandusky. it's close to findlay and marion really inbetween. I also get on rig-talk and harmony-central so many of you may know me from there

I have a maxon rod 880. and a modded sd-1. so basically your saying just to do a clean boost with it right. also man i hate jj's to me IMO thye made it sound dark and dull. i hated the tung-sol for v1 i had better results with GT than jj's and the tungsol, i had the infamous tungsol jj high gain and chinese 9th gen. with matched p.i. tube and jj power section. i wasn't impressed. thats why i was considering a bbe

And now...the opposition speaks.

I've been using a BBE for years & I love it. It works very well with rack and solid state gear. However, they can be very finiky with tube amps. Sometimes they are great with them. Other times, the effect is minimal. My suggestion would be to buy one at a store with a decent return policy & try it out. If it kicks ass for ya, then great. If not, just return it.

Try it out and see if it works for you.

I'd pay the retail price to keep it out of my guitar rig, though.

The plugin, on the otherhand, comes in handy for certain applications.

do you have an older 2-Ch recto, or one of the newer ones aimed at the nu-metal crowd?
