Boost Questions
I have a marshall jcm 900 dual reverb model 4100 head with a jackson USA soloist (mahogany) with a crunch lab/liquifire combo. Im looking to put either a tube screamer or some type of overdrive in front to boost the amp. Im looking for a more modern sound. Hopefully i can make it happen. Please recommend me a pedal well suited for my amp and guitar. Thinking of the maxon 0d808 or one of the ibanez tube screamers. Any input is greatly appreciated.

get a mxr classic overdrive its cheap its a TS clone. BUT has a built in switch inside to switch to zakk wylde overdrive for more modern OD. can add a toggle switch outside(2$) simple mod=2 OD's for 40$ one pedal!

I saw this recently and have been thinking of trying it. Thought I'd share, like the EQ options of it.

It sounds amazing. I'm been itching to try it since the first demo went up on the Dunlop site.

I can't comment on the difference between the mxr and the maxon, but when i demoed some od pedals I tried out a ibanez ts808 and a ts9 and the both had this shrill, percussive, "clanky" sound that i wasn't a fan of at all. It tightened up the low end just fine, but the maxon did the same thing without the harsh sound.

pretty much same as adding a switch to mxr classic od, without cut/boost tho.
and the ts-9 and ts-808 is the same thing minus one diferrent value resistor IMO the 9 808 are way overpriced for a "shell" get ts-7 solder 2 wires u got ts808 or get a ts-7 and its a ts-9 minus the vintage shell. smooth transactions with: djpharoah, bob123, Sevenstringer, Jolo5150, kfiggy If you're gonna "Thank me" then Thank (post) me, or give rep ![]() "With the amount of flak I've been receiving lately, i may just keep this post to myself!" |

A mod changed it. It's in the forum rules NOT to post threads with all caps-lock titles. Calling out a mod on a decision is not a smart thing to do here.

Mxr m77 badass modified OD
Anyone using a mxr m77 as a boost for their amp? Im looking to buy a maxon od808 but saw this one and was wondering how well it could boost my jcm900 for a more modern metal tone. any info?

it' actually two resistor to mod the TS9. also, IIRC they're mainly altering the output buffer and don't have a really noticeable impact on sound.
personally, i'd go with a OD808. the input and output jacks on the ibanez tonelok series tend to get loose and the overall pedal construction leaves to be desired. if you'll be keeping the pedal always on and in a rack drawer it should be fine, though. |

I'm in the same boat as you; I thought I had decided to go for a hardwire cm-2 but, this pedal intrigues me

dont you have a thread about what would be best to boost your amp already man?

as long as you only use the OD as a boost ie. no gain NS-2 wayyy more than enough.
