Poweramps and a Rookie

Hey Everybody,

i have a question that i hope some of yous could kindly answer. I just picked up a Carvin SX300h amp head (100w).....but i also have a Madison Solace 4x12 cab that is capable of handling DOUBLE of what the Carvin puts out.

Is there any way to juice my signal from the Carvin head so that the Madison cab runs at it's real potential?

I have this preoccupation that if i stick a power amp in the signal path, it'll amp up the signal and run the cab right.

IN GENERAL, is this plausible? (i saw this guy post a review on a power amp saying he ran his bass head through one to give his cab some nuts, but i'm just a rookie....i know nothing.)

Any help would be SUPREMELY appreciated! Thanks.

( Justin )

Speaker headroom is a good thing. If you drive them to their max capacity they will breakup horribly and turn your tone to mush. Do keep in mind that tube poweramps often push up to double what they're rated at. I'd leave your amp and cabinet as they are.

I wouldn't worry about getting more wattage. 100 watts is a lot of power and should be more than enough for almost all aplications. You can use your head to power a power amp, but you have to run off an line out or the effects send of your effects loop.

Thanks for the info...Yeah, i figured 100 watts is plenty for club gigs, etc. I just needed to know if it was possible to perform this sorta thing. Thanks mucho, bro.

100 Watt's will knock you off your socks! It's more than enough for about anything you can think of

Also note that I can blow up your cab with a 50 watt amp, it's all about source material. People forget this and blow up speakers all the time, always keep that in mind.

yeah, with tubes, you can get spikes of power that exceed the amps rating. plus, a part of a good overdrive tone is working your tubes hard. having speakers that your amp has to push hard against is good for that.

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.
