![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Vox Valvetronix head + cab I'm really wondering if anyone here tried it... (beside Edgecrusher, who i asked comments from...and still waiting to hear from him). http://www.voxamps.co.uk/products/va...vth_v412bk.htm So yeah, still on that never-ending hunt for a solid-tube-something practice amp. When i jam with friends, a have a Mesa Dual Rectifier + Marshall cab JCM 800 Lead 19 that i rent so i'm fine on this side. But when at home, i want something good, but really quiet. Here's a couple of arguments in it's favor : - the price is freakin' low - you can get that cab "feel" / sound spred at home at low volume - i don't mind the look of it - i wish i could have a tube amp at home, but they're too damn loud (and for the most part too expensive. I love playing guitar but it ain't my life). I know a single tube pre-amp isn't a golden solution but isn't better than no tube at all? I've read a couple of reviews (and asked people too) and Vox is always in the top 3 "most tube-sounding solid-state amps". The thing is, you can drop the wattage from 100 watts to ...1 watt. You put the master volume all the way up, bring the wattage down and you can get pretty decent "saturated" sounds. I've tried it (twice) but every fuckin' time, there will be kids around trying other amps at full volume so i couldn't really get a good "ear" on it. Toughts / Comments on the amp? Become one of us or die, fuckers. / Rick - RHLC V-P. |

![]() | Hey, sorry for the delayed response, my laptop broke ![]() I really like my Valvetronix amp, it has that tube feel and push along with the various digital modeling sounds, and being able to change the wattage is sweet, especially with neighbors, I can have it at 1 watt for practicing and 100 for jamming full on with a drummer. I mainly use the US hi gain channel(similar to 5150 and SlO 100) for lead and rythem and the Blackface for cleans. The recto model isnt very good. Tommi Inkila over on the petrucci forums has some really good clips of the 15 watt version do a search at petrucciforum.com . I recorded a clip too, though it is with a six string. putfile.com/edgecrusher ,the clip on the right. Both my clips and Tommi's are done direct with the line out which has cabinet simulation; it sounds great and makes recording a snap. I emailed Tommi to get his settings because I was blown away by his sound and he was really nice and gave them to me. These settings are a great basis for getting the best sounds. The amp is really bass heavy, so be sure to keep it down for a tight sound. Treble: 1 o klok Mids: 1 o klok Bass : 9 o klok Volume: 12 o klok Master 12 o klok (though I usually crank it up a bit more when not recording) I highly recomend this amp, its great for the price. I could never get a good non digital sound with any line6 amp, but its very easy with the Vox. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hey Thanks! No problem at all for the delay (aah....when technology fails )It's good to know you like the amp. You're like the only one who has it! (thanks for the settings hints too!) Everyone keeps raving about them but nobody owns one. It's also good to know it handles the 7 well. Like i said (1st post), i got to tried it with the vox cab, but not in a good environment. I just feel like i have to take it home to give it a good try. The thing that does it with this one is the variable wattage and the incredible $ (really can't afford a mesa.... but i rent one whenever i jam). I'm really debating now between this and an all-tube little combo amp (like the Peavey Royal 8 or the new mini-JSX). decisions....Maybe i'll just wait for boxing day madness. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Go for the Valvetronix. I have the 2x12 combo, and it fucking pwns. Not as good as my 6505, but damn close, WAY more versatile, sounds great, and above all i enjoy playing through it. How many amps give you that feeling? My only concern is that the controls are on top of the head. ![]() But hey, unless you are a wee bit vertically challenged, it could be better for you, not having to bend over. |
