Gaffa pick ups

For purely cosmetic reasons i wanna put black gaffa or masking tape over my pick ups, will this at all affect the sound for worse?

If they mass produce dinos 8 string, i'm getting one for sure!

Naw, Marten & Fredrik from Meshuggah used to use black hockey tape on their pickups, and I believe Korn used duct tape all over the guitar as well.

Please be kind to snakes. They can't help it.

Actually it might. Some tapes (Mag-tape springs to mind) have metal fibres in the cross-braid, which gives the tape greater tensile strength. So, either check your tape with a gaussometer to see if it has a magnetic field, or use hockey tape. Go for the 2nd option.

Why not just see if the magnets in the pickups attract the tape?

Could be subtle. And remember, subtety affects "tone", according to our Gibson rep @ work. Its his motto; he keeps trying to get us to buy in some vintage reissue type LP's.
Tbh, it probably won't matter at all. I just felt the need to be anal.
