It was actually a lot easier than expected, since Mesa designed it so you can "feel" the amp pop into place when you slide it back into the cab. ![]() V1 was the obvious choice for one of them. I decided to take a chance and use the other one for the loop tube, V4. In V1, it did everything I expected it do, since I heard it in V1 on Mike's Triple Rec: smoother overdrive, less buzz, sweeter cleans. V4 wasn't a huge difference, but I did notice that the lower gain yielded a little less harshness on the clean channel. The Tung Sol in this position was noteable in what it didn't do, as the loop is definately more transparent this way. I play with it here for a week or two, and then try moving it around. Mike and I are both curious as to how it will perform as the phase tube. I've also considered trying it out as the reverb tube, but I really don't use the amp's reverb much. The real surprise was the modded TS7 that Mike let me borrow: ![]() Good lord did this thing sound amazing in front of the dirty channels. Notes literally jumped out of the amp at me. I must obtain one and administer it 100% of the time. I can't quite explain it, other than it makes the amp sound so much more alive. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Heh. I have a spare Tung Sol, I didn't want to drop in it my V3 which shares between the last gain stage and loop buffer on my amp. In V2 it made the amp too smooth. So, I guess those of us who always run TS9/808 booster pedals aren't nuts after all.. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() | I have my Tube Screamer modded by Analogman. It's freakin' fantastic! I heard wonderful things about Tung Sol. When my JJs die, I'll give them a go. |
