Lead Settings

Just out of interest what is the difference between your Rhythm and your Lead sounds. Do you tweak your Rhythm sound (and how), use the same sound or just totally different?

Thanks

I prefer a slightly bass heavy rhythm sound, all though not too much since it won't cut. Maybe more of a low midrange type sound. My lead tone tends to be a little brighter, more upper mids, and i use a little less gain.

I am the mask you wear.

When recording, I'll use the modern mode on channel 3 for rhythm, scoop the mids a bit more, and give it a bit more edge. It's chunkier and crunchier. For leads, I'll switch to vintage mode, crank the channel volume and back off the master to smooth out the lead channel (no idea why, but this TOTALLY changes the response), and roll off the presence and boost the mids back up.

I'm also screwing with a darker rhythm tone and an edgier lead, but...

Live, I just dial up a good balanced tone (vintage or modern, depending on what's more appropriate for the setting) and just use the footswitrchable volume boost to go back and forth between both.

Maybe I should elaborate a little bit on my tone....

My rhythm stuff is usually done with either the Ubershall or Powerball patches on my PODXT Live. I use the post eq to churn up the lower mid frequencies to accentuate the low A on my 7s. I keep the bass up around 2 oclock and the mids and highs around 3 oclock or so. The gain is usually on like 8 and the presence is almost always kept around noon. I almost never use any effects other than wah...

For lead, I'll use a brighter patch, like the Line6 Insane. Bass: 10 oclock Mid: 4 oclock Highs: 2 oclock Gain: 5.5 or 6. Again, I never really use effects other than wah and the post eq which I tweak the upper mid range with.

Does the Vintage channel still give enough 'oomph', for Artificial Hamrnoics and such?

Depends what you mean by "oomph," but the vintage channel is thicker and chunkuier than the lead. Not as edgy, but with a ton of balls.
