Does it crackle if you bump the cabinet (gently) with your fist?

Very indicative of dirty sockets. The oxidation causes a resistance between the tube pins and sockets that changes as the tube parts get hotter.

I'll try the contact cleaner then....Tomorrow perhaps. Should I do it to the preamp tubes aswell or nay?

Absolutely. All tubes! If it has a reverb tank with RCA jacks and plugs , hit them up, too.

Make sure that the cleaner does not contain lubricants!

Popsyche has the answer I suspect. If the crackling stops after about 20 seconds or so, maybe it's not a big deal. I've had that happen with amps before, and if the crackling stops after a few seconds or so, eh, I generally just leave it

Cleaning the contacts might do the trick. If your power tubes are bad, you'll get crackling and/or microphonic noises when they're thumped.

Yeah and if the power tube sockets are dirty, it could let out an ungodly loud fart when whacked! (I hate that!)
