Badass. I had an Axe-FX for a while, but never thought to try a setup like that.

I am wanting to get into a semi-modeling setup. When I actually start putting that rig together, expect a few PM's about how you hooked everything up

No problem brother, that's why we're here!!! I spent alot of time researching my options and optimizing my signal chain, and setup, to be as user friendly as possible.

But preset 35 will activate channel 3, fx loop, and EQ. So with one touch of a footswitch, there are multiple changes going on.

Looks great dude! Awesome job!

That said, I got a V2 and an 1101 myself. Though currently, I use just my G-Major-II in the loop, and the 1101 by itself for recording when I need the occasional tone my Randall/G-Major combo won't do.

But I've been thinking of doing what your doing here...integrating the V2 and 1101 as such. If only to give me easy access to better clean tones. But might be nice to toy with boosting, and/or adding compression to either of the gain channels....like an MT-2 in front of the SS channel for some Crowbar inspired tones, perhaps? Could be good fun!

Than I can use my G-Major II as dedicated unit just for my Cyclone...

Yeah....I'm thinking I just may go for it.

Any advice you can offer? Sounds like you may initially have had issues with getting the channels to sync up?

here is a video of how to sync up the randall head with the GSP1101, all you need is a 5 pin MIDI cable. connect it from the "MIDI in" on your randall to the "MIDI thru" on your GSP1101. u actually don't even need the control 2 foot board to do this. you can still store your amp settings along with the desired preset, and when you select a preset manually by hand, it will still change your amp settings. the control 2 just makes everything more convenient.

Cool...thats kinda how I figured it would go down. I know syncing it up with my G-Major was a breeze. I use a Behringer FCB1010 for a foot board, but I don't think that makes any difference at all.

Do you find that the 1101 colors the V2 at all when not using any effects with it?

Also, what Firmware are you running? I only ask cuz if you got one of the beta firmwares, you have an RG100ES model to play with...would be cool to pump that through the V2 and see what happens! I'm gonna end up trying that myself at some point!

i am using c56. i do have the rg100 model, one of my favorites!!! of course, i am partial to the randall tone:-) it sounds really good through my XLTX cab. i will be posting a few more videos showing some of my other presets on youtube. keep in mind, the videos are recording on an iPhone4, so the audio probably isn't as good as if i direct recorded with USB, but it get's the job done. and actually, to my surprise, alot of the digitech amp models which are included in the GSP sound damn good as well!!

to answer your other question, i do not notice any tone difference by running my V2 preamps through the GSP, sounds exactly the same.

one thing i will include....because i have it hooked up to use the internal preamps AND my Randall preamps, my decimator pro-rack is only used on my V2 preamps, it will not have any effect on the internal preamps. so on presets that use my V2 preamps, i use the decimator as the gate. on presets that use the internal preamps, i am forced to use the built-in gate on the GSP. this is the reason - when you setup the GSP to use internal AND external preamps (not one or the other) it either incorporates the loop to use an external preamp, or completely shuts off the loop to use only the internal preamp. and since i have the decimator in the loop, it is completely bypassed when i use an internal preamp. that's the only downside to hooking it up this way. i am trying to figure out a way around it, but i called digitech, and even with the newest firmware, they say i would still have the same problem. but i may try a completely un-orthodox wiring scheme to see if i can figure out how to get the decimator to be the only gate, cuz it is sooooo much better than the built in gate on the GSP. but all in all, everything sounds very good.

here is my signal chain, for reference:

guitar > X2 wireless in & out> decimator channel 1 in > decimator channel 1 out > gsp front input > GSP loop send > V2 front input > V2 loop send > decimator channel 2 in > decimator channel 2 out > GSP loop return > GSP line out > V2 loop return

Thanx for the info!

Good to know about the gate issue. That kinda sucks. I typically run two gates....a Boss NS-2 between my guitar and the amps front end, and than the GM-2's gate in the loop. I f I go the above route, I have an extra NS-2 I can throw in as a dedicated gate loop as well, but damn, I'd like to NOT have that extra stuff in my chain if possible. Can't afford the Pro-Rack, but I may get a Hush or something in the future as a simpler solution. A freind of mine had one he used with his Peavey, and it actually worked a little bit better than his ISP Decimator pedal, and if memory serves me, it DID have the functionality to run in front, and in the loop simultaneously.

i only use the built-in gate on the GSP for the high gain amp models, for the clean models i just turn it off, it's not needed. but the decimator is there to tame the monsterous amount of noise my V2 makes at high gain, so i am still happy to have it and with it's performance.

eBay my friend, eBay!! and patience:-) i did alot of gear research & video watching, to figure out what direction i wanted to go as far as rack units, effects, & noise reduction. i have always been a randall guy, so i knew i wanted the V2 already. i had a couple of their combo amps, and i had the rm100 in the past.

i stumbled across a pawn shop on ebay who had the V2 head and the R412XLTX cab listed at buy it now for $750 + $50 for shipping. i don't think many people saw the listing, cuz they had it titled "randall guitar amp half stack". i even called them just to make sure i wasn't missing something, but it was the real deal. then i bought the power conditioner, decimator, X2 wireless, rocktron Xpression w/ foot controller, and SKB case for $710 + $30 shipping. i sold the rocktron Xpression and Midimate for $350, and then bought the GSP1101 and Control 2 for around $450. then i sold the SKB case for $100, and bought the flight case for $225 used.

Sounds great dude!

I'ma' have to try one of my RG100ES patches through it myself.

I actually did get it all hooked up last week before I had to take off to NH for work, so had limited time to tinker and explore....but yeah...I shoulda set this up from day one with the V2, was simple, if not simpler, than I thought to do, and sounds great!

I actually am hoping to do some recording this weekend. I got a sick rythm patch I set up using nothing but the V2's SS overdrive channel, slightly boosted by the 1101's 808 model, and followed up by the noise gat....which I've actually had no issues with thus far....though the G-Major II's gate was better though. Mostly it's just some high end hiss I notice while playing, that I don't think may have been there before, but I'm probably the only one who notices it, and when I record, I tend to Low Pass my guitars at around 8khz, so chances are it won't even be their at all.

Glad you made this thread dude. It inspired me to take my rig out of the 'comfort zone' I put it into, and now get more of it's full potential from it!

Awesome, glad I could help out, even if it is just one person. I mean, we spend all this money and time deciding what pieces of gear are needed or not needed. Then sometimes we aren't even using that gear to it's fullest potential. If u run into any problems or concerns, let me know. I think it makes for a sweet setup:-)

Wow, I want one of those Randall's to play with. Probly next tax return unfortunately. Ya it does suck you cant route the gate anywhere but in front, but I have an NS-2. I have the monsterous old version Velocity 250, so I dunno how much my sound would change going from one solid state power section to another. One of the best rigs I've seen, definitely stands out from the normal 5150/Recto cab standard.
