Replacement tubes. Any suggestions?
I'm looking to replace the preamp and power tubes in my amp. I was looking at Electro Harmonix, JJ's, and Groove Tubes. The last one seems to be the most expensive. This will be my first time changing tubes so I don't really have any experience as far as experimenting with different replacement tubes. Any suggestions? My amp has a set of 4xEL34, 2x6L6, and 6x12ax7. Thanks...

actually, I've heard of some guys having troubles with eurotubes after sales service.
JJ's are nice tubes, but also check out SED. I just put a pair of SED 6L6's in my Laney and I'm very impressed. Most importantly, have the amp biased correctly. If it's a Mesa or Peavey (etc.) without adjustable bias I feel it's best to have bias pots installed. |

I like the Tung Sol reissues and the 9th generation Chinese for 12AX7s.

The EH EL34's don't have a lot of bass, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your amp's tone. They can tighten up a bass-heavy amp, or make an already tight amp sound thin.

I love JJ/Eurotubes. Bob has always been great to me. When I've had a problem he sent me replacement tubes no questions asked.

My bandmate put them in his Blue Voodoo (before he sold it) and it did help. Still had a plastic solid-state tone but it did help to warm up the high end.

I've dealt with Bob many times (from questions to actual purchasing). Solid guy and solid service.
