Another combo amp thread ;D

So i was looking at stuff on musicians friend and i was looking at things from Peavey as well as Vox and some other things as well. What do the XXX series sound like? 6505--Same as the 5150, i'm assuming? What about the Vavle King?

Anyone have any other suggestions for combo amps that can be had for 400-600$ used?

I'm in the process of selling my stuff here, so i wanted to get something soon ;D

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

6505 is indeed the new name for the 5150. I've got a couple of friends in a band who were endorsed by Peavey and had a 5150 and a Triple-XXX. They're concensus is the 5150 ruled and the XXX sucked arse. Bear in mind they've just landed a Framus endorsement, so they know what they're talking about.

I've always liked the 5150/6505 combo. It sounds freakin' sweet, better than the standard head, IMO.

for what? i can see using it as an van halen machine to do brown sounds. but for stright metal chug? i've tried 3 heads and 2 combos (one being a 6505) and all the heads kicked their ass.

al so ken, i forgot to mention the DC-3 to you in the PM. its got the features of the F-30 only cheaper and a 5 band graphic EQ to boot!

"are there gonna be snacks? i heard there were gonna be snacks."

I have botha 5150 head and a XXX (which is a combo).

The XXX FAR FROM sucks. and i wouldn't say the 5150 stomps all over it either!! It's a great punchy metal tone and is VERY tight. I prefer the 5150's smoothness, but i use a head and mesa cab. I prefer the XXX for versatility because it has three independent channels...

My other guitarist has a XXX and teamed together it sounds amazing. Regardless of who's endorsed by what, it doesn't really prove what amp is better...but it's their opinion (which of course they are entitled to). But I wouldn't slam an amp because one band says it sucks and moved on to another company...then again, my my opposite opinion isn't right either. Just a perspective to take.

Well, im heading to guitar center in about 6 hours to get a 5150 Combo. i tried it out 2 days ago and it sounds amazing to me. im not sure what its gonna cost, because im gonna talk them down as much as i can. they seem to like it when you can get them comission on the current payperiod instead of doing layaway, so im gonna be like " I got this card.. and this card says i can get this amp IF.." so we'll see what it turns out to be like.

So between GC and Sam Ash, i got to try most of the non-mesa stuff i was considering (Triple X, Valveking, a few Voxxes, 5150 head, a couple of marshalls, etc, etc) ... And no matter what i tried, it still seemed like the 5150 soudned better. So if i can get it for around 700-750, im totally gonna take it.
