My buddy's a Randall dealer, so I'll give the G3 a go the next time I'm there. I'll be sure to bring my 1527, since he doesn't carry 7's anymore (7's aren't too common in Chicago anymore, it seems).

Rest assured, I am not a total tube snob, even though that's what my current setup is. I've owned mostly SS or modeling stuff through the years.

The G3's are cool amps. The clean channels have greatly improved since the G2 and the distortions are still raw and kickin, but they now have a bit of roundness to them because of the new power section. I prefer the V2 because of the onboard EQ, which makes a HUGE difference, but the G3's are cool. I haven't tried it with the 7 string yet because I didn't have it with me at the store my friend has, but I'll bring it by next week and give a little review on it. I have an old RG150 head and the MTS 100 watt head and my Ibanez sounds incredible through them both. I'm swapping out the stock pickups next week to Duncans (59' and JB), so I'm sure the tone will only improve

Which models do you have with the MTS? I'm very interested in trying one with the XTC model. If you happen to go to the randall dealer could you try an MTS combo and let me know how it compares to the head?

Right now I'm using the Clean, 1086 and Ultra modules. They all sound great, but I'm having some feedback issues with the Ultra right now. It could be the pickups, but I'm still playing around. I'm in the middle of e-mailing Bob from Eurotubes and getting a set of KT88's to put in the outside sockets and another pair of E34L's in the inside sockets. That should be done in a week or two. The XTC module is great, very high gain without the fizz that the Ultra has. It's thick and a great rhythm module, and pretty good for lead too. I've played almost all of the modules and am slowly collecting them to use with various guitars and styles that I'm learning and playing, but it's a slow process considering where I work and the expenses I have.

With the combo's, the RM50 I believe has the 6L6's tubes. I tested almost all the modules with the E34L's vs. 6L6, and cranked the preamp vs. the poweramp. I wrote a LONG review on it before, I'll see if I can find it again. The 6L6's smooth everything out a bit, so it's not as gritty or aggressive as the E34L's, but it all depends on what your going for tone wise. The 100 watt combo has the E34L's, but with the G12T-75 speakers instead of the V30 MTS cab I'm using. The midrange is increased overall, not totally changing the tone, but making it noticable out there, but I prefer the V30 tone myself. With the RM100, I also hear a tad more headroom than with the combo, although honestly I've only heard the 100 watt combo once, I've been playing the head/cab for about 9 or so months, so my memory might not serve 100% correctly there.

I'm very interested to know peoples experience with the g3 amps. I'm looking at getting a rg200g3 combo and would be interested to know what people think about them, more in terms of reliability etc and whether the speakers can actually handle the 200W. I played a rg100g2 in a store the other day and it sounded pretty damn good.

Jetzt liegst du hier, ganz regungslos, in meiner hand und meinem schoß, du bist so kalt...

If your going with the head, I recommend using a cab with the V30's (if your going to buy a Randall cab also) or the cab loaded with 2 V30's and 2 G12T-75's. The G3 cabs with the 70-80's sounds ok, but the overall tone sounded much more out there and alive with the MTS or XL cabs
