Bareknuckles for an Ibanez RG 1527

Hey.

I'm looking at replacing the stock pickups in my RG 1527. I want more power and A LOT more clarity in the neck position.
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a Nailbomb in the bridge and a Cold Sweat in the neck? I know about getting them calibrated so the Cold Sweat doesn't overpower the Nailbomb, and about 4 conductor wiring for the 5 way switch.

I play metal/shred in the style of Dream Theater, Steve Vai, Carcass and Morbid Angel.

Thanks in advance.

I think a nailbomb would suit you perfectly. Although i used to use a Warpig in the bridge of an old Washburn 7 string i used to have. It had increbily tight low end though i never really liked it for lead tones.

Thank you, I'd heard that on another board, but I always want as many opinions as possible.

OT: I see you have a Laney VH100, what sort of music do you play?

I'm looking at either a VH100 or a TT100h as my next amp, to go with a closed back Framus 2x12 cab with Celestion Vintage 30s.

Well i used to play in a metalcore band (with some death metal influences, the typical shite you hear now) but since then i've moved on and i'll play anything that i can get my head around. Mainly metal but i do dwell into Eric Johnson and SRV influenced stuff now and then. The VH100R can literally do anything. Though it's not as tight as say a Framus Cobra (which is focused to that tight low end grind sound) it has a terrific sound to it with loads of clarity. so it works really well with a 7 string.

I thought the TT100 lacked gain to be honest. The VH100R seemed a bit more 'open' sounding too.

What cab and speakers do you use? Any beam-blockers?

I know Herman Li of DragonForce is now using a TT100 with his 7 string, but I've not heard it in use yet (roll on December).

I know the VH100r is versatile. I believe John 5 used to use one and his solo albums are quite varied, as well as Andy Timmons and one of the dudes from Mastodon.

I'm using a Marshall 4 x 10 with some weird celestions that i can't remember the name of. It has a very clear sound and seems to handle all frequencies well (better than the peavey 5150 cab i have). Andy Timmons' tone on his albums (when he does use it) shows just a tiny bit of what it can do. Though my tone is similar in ways to Timmons' tone.

I spoke to Herman Li about his gear and he said that his TT100 is a fantastic amp but i think he uses his rack stuff for solos. As he said that the TT100 doesn't have much gain for his solo tone. So he may possibly switch between the two live with an A/B selector switch.

What drew me to the TT100h was the MIDI switching, but i've since realised I won't use it, seeing as I'm not a big effects person, and I only really use 3 sounds.

That said, I'll probably just end up with a 5150/6505.

Thanks for the information, good to find a forum where the members are helpful and understand what they're on about, unlike some I could mention. *cough*HC*cough*.

If you need the best opinion what Bare Knuckles to put in your Ibanez contact Tim, the owner of Bare Knuckles directly. He is far and away one of the nicest and most helpful people I have ever dealt with.
There's also sound clips of the exact pickup configuration you're interested in an Ibanez on the BKP forum. Here's one clip. Here's another clip.

I was going to contact Tim, but I wanted an unbiased, objective opinion first.

Thanks for the links.

I've been wanting some 7 string Bareknuckles for some time now but i've never had the cash to spare at the right time.

I've got a couple of their 6's and they're superb pickups.

You won't get better service anywhere!
