I doubt the sound quality of the effects are any better than say the Gmajor, and the Gsys doesn't have the tweakability of the Gforce...I like it for the loops and routing capabilities

that rig would be sweet.

and yeah, the short hair definitely works for those guys.

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.

The G-System is basicly a rackmount unit in a floorboard chasis. It's not like he ditched the rack. It's more like he relocated it.

I don't need anything except this [picks up Roadster and G-System] and that's it and that's the only thing I need, is this. I don't need this or this. Just this Roadster and G-System. And this paddle game, the Roadster and G-System and the paddle game and that's all I need. And this remote control. The Roadster and G-System, the paddle game, and the remote control, and that's all I need. And these matches.

Actually, that sounds like a killer system, Darren. Simple, versatile, portable. Perfect.

The G-System is a great piece of gear, but I feel that it's overpriced. I've been using one in my studio/stage rig for about 6 months now and here's my thoughts:

Pros:

Compact

Durable

Aesthetically Pleasing

Effects are organic sounding and very transparent

Amp switching and 3 effects loops

Upgradeable via downloadable firmware updates

Funtions as a midi controller

Cons:

Pitch shifter has trouble tracking when more than one note is played (produces strange artifacts).

Effects block routing cannot be changed (you cannot move reverb to have it feed a phaser or something of this like)

Not as many tweakable paramaters as some other FX units, so its tough to get bizarre or out of the ordinary sounds.

Its a killer unit, but I do feel that its a bit overpriced for what it does. But if you're fool enough to pay the price for it and can get over it, its good stuff.

Most pitch shifters can't handle polyphony very well, so that's not all that unusual or surprising.

Not being able to re-order the effects kinda sucks. I would have expected more versatility from TC. I like putting things together in weird ways to get wacky sounds. (And using the expression pedal to warp numerous parameters at once.)

My 10+ year old Digitech 2101 Artist handled pitch shifting polyphone EXCELLENTLY. Then again, Digitech is arguable one of the progenitors of guitar-based pitch shifting technology (whammy). In fact, the Digitech 2101 Artist with the upgrade chip installed was a stellar unit. Unmatched tweakability and flexibilty and even the ability to create your own algorhythms. Way ahead of its time, I say. I would still use it if it hadn't become so unreliable due to its age and tour abuse. Its tough to find one on Ebay that hasn't also been put over the hill. To top it off, when I purchased it new it was $1000, a far cry from the $1500 of the G-System.

I figured it was time to move into the next generation of fx gear, and the G-System has been lauded as the way to go, especially for the way I like to run my rig.

We'll see what I'll have to GAS over next that may be a step beyond the G-system. TC Electronic certainly limited its capabilities, I suppose in an effort to make it more user-friendly, but at the expense of us tweakers.

I'm sure he's still using rack effects like his Eventides and such for all that harmony stuff. He's just ditched the custom Bradshaw switching unit and the g-force.
