If you're a tube snob, you need not apply. ![]() Which one is the one to get? Randall V2 (same as a V-max basically w/ 2 SS channels & 1 tube channel) Peavey XXL See poll & discuss. Thoughts? Experiences? Are there other killer 3+ channel SS amps I should know about? I really want independent EQs for EACH channel also. |

It's not nearly as cool as the XXX of course, but for a solid state it has some good tube emulation. It has really good dynamics for a solid-state. |

Are you just wanting the consistancy of ss and less maintance?? Or do you prefer the tone? http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/gea...brand-new.html "I wish TV had a knob so you could turn up the intelligence. The one marked Brightness doesn't work." Gallagher |

You are correct that I love the consistency & reliability of SS amps. Also, I love super tight sounding hi-gain tones. I've tried numerous tube amps. Given that I'm a very articulate & percussive player that tunes down to A, I require an equally tight low end. The low end response on most tube amps become really spongy & even "woofy" in those extreme low registers. What's fine for others is not fine for me. I'm very picky when it comes to this (see my gear whoredom). To be honest, I'm getting really irritated with SS amp makers who are trying to sound more like tubes amp. Why not just make SS amps better? Why not search for NEW innovative tones that haven't existed yet? Seems silly to take a newer technology (SS) just to sound like an older one (tubes). With modelling, I understand though. I think this is why the V2 & V-Max looks so appealing. I can have 2 SS & 1 tube channel all in one amp. The 2 SS channels would offer me that JC120 clean sound with that razor-sharp Randall hi-gain rhythm tone. The tube channel would be ideal for solos & more classic rock sounds. So any more suggestions, people? | |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Heh, you'll think I'm crazy, but Shannon, if you have time, plug a seven string guitar into the Ampeg B5R bass head. It's got some sick-as-fuck tight crunch tones. It's got tons of low end, too. If I was going to buy a SS head for that kind of money, that is exactly what I would go for. Try it through a 2x12 cab. ![]() |

Come on, you knew it was coming. ![]() Anyway... I voted for the Randall. I looks cooler. Higher wattage. And well, if Scott Ian plays it, then it must be cool! ![]() I've played the peavey and it was cool. But the sound samples of the V-Max(which I'd assume the V2 sounds pretty much the same) and it sounded great. |

![]() ![]() | im really itching to try those new randalls. randall seems to be one of the few companies that actualy supports the few hardcore SS users around. i've always been impressed by them trying to make brutal ass distortion and not anything else (most companies of course just have SS lines for cheap low end amps, or they try to emulate tubes) i love my tubes to death but SS doesn't have to be equated to sub par performance. they just get the job done in a different way. people are just starting to realize that newer SS amps aren't the same thin sounding little fuzz boxes of yore and that for cases of extreme tight sounding gain they excell considerably. ![]() i like the idea of the randall, best of both worlds.
