Thinking about selling my Mesa for a Podxt setup.

My Mesa .50 Caliber 1x12 combo with my Carvin 2x12 isn't cutting it as far as handling low frequencies of the low F# and such. It sounds incredible with B or any tuning above. I could probably get around 500-600 for my Mesa which is plenty for a podxt. I've seen them go on ebay for $200 with the model packs(bean model). So that leaves me with around 300 for my 8 string project. I have a Mesa 50/50 poweramp that's headed my way, as I got a great deal. I'll prolly get a specially tuned earcandy cab later on when I get enough money. What do you think?

I dunno, dude. If thats the sound you want and you think it can deliver, go for it.. But i think that a POD is a step down from a Mesa...

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

I really do like the sound of Line 6 stuff, and how well it tracks low tuning when tweaked right. There's something about it that my Mark voiced Mesa can't do. With a Mesa 50/50 poweramp, it's pretty much a tube rig aswell.

i'm sure the amp is doing just fine with the lower frequencies, but maybe not your speakers. you should take your Mesa to a music store with a Mesa 4x12, and see what kind of noise you can make with a real cabinet.

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

I think that'd be a good idea. I'll try that as soon as I can.

cool . i've heard only good things about those Caliber series combo's. i'd hate to see you sell it and miss it later.

also, how do you dial in your Bass setting? i've read in a good number of places that setting it to around 2~4 can really help the sound. i have mine dialed in at around 4 on my gain channels on my Nomad.

Yeah the amp is definetly a tone machine. I keep the bass at 2 and adjust the real bass with the graphic EQ. The parametric bass knob really just dials in gain and subsonic bass frequencies as far as I know.

Yeah a Cabinet can make a world of difference.i thought my amp sounded alright on the cabinet im using now. But, damn , when i tried it on a Carvin 4x12.. HOLY SHIT. It sounded so much better it wasn't even funny. After i heard it on the carvin, i was sure i had found the right amp.

Personally, I'd take take the POD over the Mesa. Unless you're talking Road King or Triaxis, Mesa's seem too flubby in the low end for my tastes. especially for dowtuning. POD = tight tone generally, and much more versatile. Pair the POD up with the right speakers and power amp, and it'll sound terrific (if you tweak it right )

You want a good tube amp that handles low tunings well? The Peavey Ultra Plus kills for it. Very tight, meaty tone, with lots of growl. My buddie has one, it it's a monster.

that 50 cal will easily handle low tunings, all you need is a 4x12 bud.... my other guitarist has an f-50 1x12 and was biching, blah blah blah its so flubby, all i want is tight distortion. getting ready to sell it. i plugged it in to my marshall 1960 all he could say was "holy shit!" end of story: he's still got it....

"are there gonna be snacks? i heard there were gonna be snacks."
