Trade Marshall 1960A for Mesa recto 2x12 - Yea or Nea?
I'm seriously considering making a straight swap: my orange tolex marshall 1960A cab for a Mesa recto 2x12 cab finished in wine tolex w/tan grill - real sweet looking, and sounds really tight. Lighter to lug around too.
I'm very torn ....what say you all?
Please be kind to snakes. They can't help it.

I'd say compare the relative values - what's a used Marshall go for as opposed to a Recto 2x12? Both have non-standard coverings...

They're both about dead even $ wise...the mesa is going for 660 Cdn, and the marshall used go for about the same - give or take 40 bucks or so. the mesa seems to just have more...quality.

I like the Recto 2x12s - I really should pick one up. Since it's a fair dollar value trade, I'd say go for it.

Thanks for the input Mike. I'm going to haul my HD head from the studio to work (where the mesa's at) tomorrow and give it a fair tryout. If all is tight enough in the bottom end (with this head - until I can get a VHT Pitbull
), I think I may just do it. |

I traded a 1960AV cab for a Mesa 2x12 a few years ago, and never regretted it. Those 2x12s sounds amazing.

I agree. IMO the Marshall 1960A cabinets are extremely harsh and thin sounding.
I have a Mesa 2x12 and although it just collects dust nowadays because I use a 4x12, they are excellent. |

I personally prefer the tone I get from well built 212 cabs over 412s. I say go for it.

Recto 2x12's, especially custom finished ones, kick much ass. It's not as imposing as a Marshall 4x12 on stage, but it's also a hell of a lot less imposing than a Marshall 4x12 GETTING it on stage. If you like how it sounds, do it.
