Marshall Cabinet for 7 string
I'm receiveing my first ever 7 string in a month or so and I am in need of nice cabinet. I've decided without a doubt I want a Marshall. Would a 4 12" speaker cabinet work well with a 7 string baritone? I would imagine so or would it be better to go with 4 15"s. If I can get away with a 4 12" setup that would be better because I would imagine it would be alot cheaper. Thanks in advance.

Stay away from the Marshall 1960A cab. Most brittle and harsh cab I've ever played. My bandmate had one, we had it side by side with my Mesa 4x12. Amps in the room were my Triaxis/2:90, Single Recto, Peavey Ultra Plus, Marshall JCM900 and a Laney GH50. Everything sounded like thin, harsh, buzzsaw ass through the Marshall cab. Everything was rad through the Mesa.
Marshall may make another cab that's cool, but stay away from those abominations. |

Thanks I'll make note of that. I play a 6 string currently and have played thru all kinds of mesa's and just honestly didn't care for the sound when compared to the Marshall's. I can't remember what cab it was but I'll make sure to play through a number of them before I decide to make my purchase.....I'm also looking into getting a Marshall head I'm currently using my dad's 70's mesa single 12 with the head built in can't remember the name of it that used to belong to Carlos Santana.lol Seriously. but man I'm impressed with it but still I'd like a full Marshall setup. |

That's cool. I don't really like Marshalls, besides the JCM2000 DSL model or heavily modded JCM 800s... I'm more of a Mesa guy. Have you tried some of the Mesa amps like the F series? Or the Peavey XXX/5150? Go with whatever you like, but it's good to try out a variety of stuff too of course

No whatever you do, do not go with a 4x12 cab!!!
![]() None of us use 4x12s. We opted for custom built 4x36 cabs because of the low end! If you'd like more of a low-midrange vintage "honk", go with a custom 4x28 or even better...a 6x18 cab! Anything less and you're really just cheating yourself. People will call you a wuss. ![]() |

It would be cool to play those 8x10 Goliath SWR cabs, too bad they're for bass

thank you very much Pinhead is my idol. Once I receive my 7 string baritone (oh man I'm going insane here I can't sleep thinking about it I wasn't this excited when I got my new Toyota Tacoma last year) I'll take it to guitar center in New Orleans they have a huge variety I'll spend the whole day in there trying all of them out.Last edited by Hellbound; 06-15-2006 at 02:13 AM.
