Take the HC reviews with a grain of salt though.

When the salsemen took it out of the box, the high e string had already popped. This should have been some kind of warning to me but I bought the thing anyway. There is a horrible buzzing on the low B string which is a big sign that its a cheap guitar and it is.
So this guy's judging it on the fact that after sitting in a box for who knows how long, and getting shipped around from here to there, that it has a broken string and needs to be setup.

ANY guitar you buy from a guitar shop should be setup properly before you get into it. A local luthier in my town charges $35 for a full setup, cleaning, truss adjustment and intontation. It's not that expensive if you look around and the difference between playing a properly setup guitar and a poorly setup one is night and day. Even the best guitar can play like shit if it's not taken care of.

The string broke? YOu mean they do that? and they have to change them?
You have to CHANGE the strings? WTF? Since when?

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

change strings? no no, thats only on cheap guitars.... hatebreeder... your uvs came with everlasting strings right?

setups are everything... i paid almost $80 for my setup with strings and cleaning and everything but from a before and after it was worth it. one bad setup and a universe could play worse than a $150 GRX720

I've been thinking of buying an Omen 7 as a backup guitar for a while... AmericanMusical.com has them for less than 300 bucks, and it'd be a nice guilt-free beater at that price.

I'd try to get the Damien myself, it's a bit more but it has the extended scale. First time in my life I've seen an extended scale seven string for less than $600.

If the extended scale is something someone would want anyway. I know not everybody wants it, but I love it.

The C-7 Blackjack or the Hellraiser are more my thing if you're talking extended-scale. The bat inlays on the Damien are a deal breaker for me. You could buy an Omen 7 and put EMGs in there and have a wicked guitar that STILL would cost less than a Damien.

I have a Schecter Omen 7 that I just got a few months ago for 299.99. My review is on HC. It's one of the top ones. I love that thing. It may be a bolt on, but I set the action up real low...and man does it fly. I put a Duncan JB in the bridge, and it reacted very well with the Basswood body. TONE, it's what it has. It's mostly a backup guitar, but I play it all the time. For the money you can't go wrong. Mine came with the Ton Pros locking bridge, and the intonation is rock solid. plus, changing the strings is easier, the bridge never moves. I ordered mine through the GC in cinci, and it only took a few weeks to arrive. The older models sucked bad. had a stop tail piece, the older style headstock, and it was bigger and bulky. The new ones are extremely light, the neck is really thin in comparison to all the other schecters I've played(even my c-7+). The body is contoured better, and is more slim. I've not played a Damien or hellraiser, so I can't judge. But, I love mine even without the extended scale. It gives me more of that sludge chunk(I use 10-56 guage and tune Adgcfad) that I like, over the speed metal tightness.
