STOLEN GEAR
Repost from myspace and metalguitarist.org:
Anyone in the Richmond and surrounding area (who knows where it might end up) A forward from my bassist: Last night I had my gear in the truck and had to move it around back alley to keep it from being towed (street sweeping). Since this is a relatively safe neighborhood, I thought it would be fine. However, I have proven otherwise... some assholes broke into our truck and stole almost my entire bass rig for Withersoul, plus other things... This is what was stolen.... Two Hartke 4x10 XL series bass cabinets two SKB cases containing: Gallen Kruegar 1001 RB bass head Power Conditioner (with lights on it, red) Sunn PS series pre amp... 3 monster speaker cables.. If you guys can keep an eye out for this..I will give a reward for finding it. I want to find the motherfuckers that did this bad... Karma is a bitch assholes..you'll get yours eventually.. I've worked too long and too hard for some fucking crackhead try to pawn off my shit... -Bill |

He's reported it to local pawn shops and the local police, so hopefully they catch it when the crack heads decide to sell it.

GOD DAMN. I hate these gear pilching turdwinds.
A bit of advice given to me: Always do what you can to write your name on your gear or modify it in a personal way that doesn't compromise it's resale value. I've heard stories of people writing their names and putting it in the cavities of their instruments/amps/cabs etc. Whenever I buy used gear, it's the first thing I check for. Respectfully with much sympathy and empathy, maat |

Dude also try posting a few WTB adds in the local publications- you never know- thieves can be really stupid MF's
I got robbed of EVRYTHING.. a year ago New Year's Eve -A UV77 a K7 and an Akai MPC 2000 just to name a few items- Renter's insurance is a must =) although I realize that it wouldn't have mattered in your' Bassists situation- but it is good to mention |

Dang that sucks man. I have had a couple of my guitars stolen at gigs before. What i do is a write down the serial numbers of every piece of equipment that is somewhat valuable down on a piece of paper. Always check on ebay, craigslist, and local shops as well for them. Luckily the douchebag that stole my guitars put them on craigslist and then when me and a few bandmates went to go get them back, he was more than willing to apologize for his actions and run back to his car very quickfully and frightfully. I dont think he will ever steal gear again.

Just saw this, sucks for your bassist man.
I hope he gets back all his gear, having your stuff stolen is such a bummer. There was another guy on TGP who had the same thing happen to him and much like this the story was similar... thought he lived in a decent enough neighborhood, got back from a gig and left all his gear in the TRUNK. Thief broke in and stole everything. Moral of the story, even if you're tired after a gig, bring ALL YOUR STUFF INSIDE YOUR HOUSE! I get paranoid about that kind of stuff so I never leave anything inside my car and I advise anyone else to do the same. Hope he is able to track down all his stuff, I'll keep an eye out up here too. Make sure he calls up Atomic Music too, lots of people in VA know about that place and they might try to move the gear in MD thinking it's far enough away for him not to look there.

That's a total bummer, and I know what it's like to get fucked over.
I guess you just can't leave anything in your car for long periods of time My dad talked my out of getting an F-150 with a cap in favor of a van because he claimed "they are easier to break into". Of course he would know better but bottom line those fuck ups will break into anything. Don't leave shit in your car. I live in a very, very nice area, but recently there has been several home invasions nearby and one man was tied up and shot in the head. I want a pistol on my nightstand. Bad people have no boundaries. |

i dont know how it is around where you all live, but around here, serial numbers and proofs of purchase don't mean shit to the cops. an x-bandmate of mine had a 16 channel peavey mixer stolen from their practice room (strangely enough, they didnt touch any of the more expensive gear in the room) anyway, my friend still had all the proofs of purchase, owners manual that also had the serial number on it and found the mixer dumped at a local pawn shop and the shops owner refused to give it back and called the cops on my buddy for being "belliegerent and disruptive" cops show up, mixer is taken as "evidence" and it took 3 years for my buddy to get it back from the local police dept. evidence room. he actually had to buy it back from the local PD auction of unclaimed property. total fucking bullshit. I hope to all higher powers that be, that you have better luck getting your shit back.

I guess justice has a price tag, or some blood needs to be split for it to work. I wouldn't count on the cops helping you out. |

General stereotyping of police this way is out of line, obviously there are good cops and the ones that do the things you mentioned are a minority. I have met some bad cops and I've met good ones, I am glad we have the good ones.

I just have a problem with them only coming through in extreme cases, like when violence got involved in my case. Maybe I just keep getting the bad ones, like I said I live in a nice community, maybe the cops here have gotten soft, this isn't Philly

Surprised the shit out of me because when my Firebird was broken into and the stereo was jacked, the cop that came by wrote it down and said 'is was on report' (< WTF does that mean?) and when my Viper was vandalized the took the fucking report over the phone. Didn't bother to even send a guy, let alone pull prints off the indicator stalk that was broken off. Nothing. ![]() There's just way too much of a discrepancy of how good and how bad cops are allowed to be at their own discretion as opposed to adhering to procedure.

lol, been a while since I looked at this. I feel for ya Variant. There are good cops and bad cops. Which there are more of I don't know. It might be bad protocols that screw things up, lack of funding, and I do believe many cops have their own priorities and sense of justice. I don't think regulating a police department is an easy task, so bad and lazy cops are going to get by.
It just seems like theft is so easy when you can just put hot stuff on Ebay and the like, and it is so much work to track to good all over the country no wonder the cops are slackin about it, but it shouldn't be that easy. |

AUSTIN TX, my bassist's house was robbed yesterday while him and his chick was at work.
I need to get more details, but here's two of the three biggest things that was stolen: Yamaha Pacifica 6 string, green body with black pickguard Xbox 360 Elite (black) with Resident Evil 5 and a couple other games.
