Line-6 guitar port and riff tracker

I know-i've said before I'm not too much of a fan on L6 stuff but.. I needed a quick way to practice at night quietly but still retain effect options. While my rack setup spoils me, it's kinda silly and wasteful to power that all up just to run a headphone set or direct( while requires a wire reroute).

So I picked this up. http://www.line6.com/rifftracker/
I must say i was pretty impressed with the program and it's sounds.

Yeah, that looks really neat. Any Latency with your PC(what type of system as well)?

I went with the PODxt over this solely because I was worried my PC wouldn't be able to take running this + winamp + whatever, since that what I use as a jamming set-up..

I do like that they've made the model packs available for the G-Port, that makes it very tempting indeed. Still I won't be sold on Line 6 till I back to back it with my current modelling gear.

No latency that i can pick up on. Even with a lot of effects. I have a pretty hot system though.

I have a v-amp2, And I'm looking into getting a podXT. Something just seems lacking in the v-amp compared to what I've heard from the pod.

most people seem to feel the opposite i find heh... of course, i got the vamp pro now, and that was a step up from the 2 since it has spdif out, and my sound card has spdif in, but other than that, i've never been able to get the tones i want out of a pod anything, vamp2/pro i easily get exactly what i want... i also found for live, a bbe really helped my vamp pro setup, at least helped me achieve the tone i wanted through the fender power amp i have and through my cab.... my biggest gripe with line 6 is their cab sim... without cab sim on the line6's sound good(through a real cab of course), but one you turn on cab sim its like automatic sh*t filter... all my opinion of course, take it FWIW...

Actually the cab sims on the v-amp are what I really dislike. Of course I could do with changing the pickups on my 7620, but still. They never sounded as crushing to my ears.

I love my Vamp Pro through an amp/cab, hate it direct. Bought the PODxt to see if I could get a better recorded tone, and to compare the two a bit as well.

i can echo that i am disappointed with how my universe sounds through my vamp, but quite honestly, i feel it is entirely the fault of the blaze pickup, as my Rhoads V with x2n and my washburn with X2N sound fantastic through it... i use cab sim 1 for a real butt rock/hard rock/80s metal tone with modern hi gain(actually got a compliment tonight from my buddy danny danzi on it), and i use cab 15 for my universe's tone, and cab 12 or 13 for my heavier tones for my x2n guitars... can't wait till i get an x2n-7 for the universe, i really think it will solve the problems with tone on that guitar. lately, a lot more people on musicianwar.com have been getting vamps, and i've been hearing a lot of people saying they believe the vamp is superior to line 6 as well... i know when i was in my last "band" my other guitarist had a xt live, and i had my vamp rig, and my tone definately cut through better, and overall just sounded better than his xt live... but his xt live changed amp sims faster lol

toshiro out of curiosity, are you using the analog out or digital out on the vamp pro? i've noticed a completely different tone from the analog out compared to the digital out, and i much prefer the digital

Best derail this year yet! No beef about it though.

The treadplate ( mesa) model and the Plexi are amazingly closer than I though possible with this software.

Those rifftracker drum samples sound pretty good man. How easy is it to customize patterns/create songs? For $200, that's not a bad little setup. I do believe I'm going to buy one.

It's been a GAS week for me, lol. I pick up my Supreme 160 head on Monday too.

Only tried the analog out, since my(admittedly older) soundcard doesn't have very good spdif support. I did try out the Ultra-G sim, and that sounded buzzy to me.

Considering that I still like my J-Station even though it's about 2 modelling generations obsolete, I think this is very subjective. Which is why I want to test the stuff out back to back and see if there's one that sounds better to me.

The #1 problem I have with the Behringer is the input level. It clips like a bitch with all my guitars without running some type of buffer(I'm using my TS9's buffered bypass). They get rid of that, and improve/remove the fuzziness and the thing will rule all.

I like the Modern Hi Gain with cab 15, or the Savage Beast with cab 12. Usually I build patches where the rhythm and lead use the same amp/cab. Zero delay switching between them.

I got all the model packs with my XT, so I'll have everything line 6 offers as far as amps to play with. If the Powerball and 5150 sound accurate I'm gonna be hard pressed to say the Vamp is better.

Sephiroth000 : Glad to hear that. The Treadplate model is a model of a model right? Based on the POD 2.0's recto? I've heard lots of complaints about the recto models on the XT, but then I won't be using that tone much. I actually prefer Line 6's Insane model to their recto tones. lol

I've been thinking about getting RiffTracker to accompany my TonePort. I like the drums and supposedly they're easy as hell to program.

you can change your input gain you know... go into "config mode" and the gain knob becomes input gain. the ultra-g output is meant for the ultra-g DI box, with its cab sim, so if you didn't have that in the loop, it would be buzzy...

I know, even with that thing on 1 my Super 3 humbucker still lights up the "clip" light on every low note. The Vamp Yahoo forums are littered with comments from Behringer to the effect that anything hotter than a PAF will clip the input of a Vamp. I'm surprised you didn't have problems with the X2N with it.

With the TS9 in line between my guitars and the Vamp, in bypass, I get enough range on that input control to get the clipping to go away. Without it the Vamp sounds like shit to me.

The XLR outputs on the Pro have the Ultra-G cab sim automatically, no extra equipment needed. In L2 mode the "Headphone Out" gets it too.

i see the "clip" light light up every now and then, but it doesn't change the sound of it any, so i don't know what the problem is honestly... i've never even taken notice to that

I'm startin to think it's a quality control issue, since you're not the first person I've talked to that didn't notice a problem. Behringer says it won't handle hot pickups, but it's starting to seem like certain units are okay and others aren't...

Faulty input resistors? I dunno.

Anyways, I plan to head to head the V-Pro, XT, and my J-Station and figure out which one sounds best recorded to me. Then I'm gonna compare the V-Pro and XT through my amp-cab setup(The J-Station is useless here, as it has like a 1sec delay even if both persets are identical).

What bugs me the most about the Line 6 gear is the price, I do not understand why the PODxt Pro costs almost double what a PODxt goes for, when there's very little software or mechanically different.

my j station annoyed me, the delay between switching patches regardless if its the same amp sim or not, and the poor cab sim were just too much for me... it sounds like its coming out of a 2x2 box to me... i've spent a lot of time trying to make line 6 products get the tones i want, i've never succeeded...
