Mesa/Boogie Dual/Triple Rectifier Solo
Hi Guys,
Does anyone here use Mesa/Boogie Dual/Triple Rectifier Solo amp head? If so, shall we try and share some of the settings used to get nice tone? What do you all think? |

Lots of guys here have Rectos. I'm a Single Recto Rectoverb 50 user myself, but that's near enough to channel 2 to trade settings - what sort of tone are you looking for?

A couple of suggestions:
1.) Read the manual 2.) For a good metal tone, start with the rectifier on silicone diodes, power on bold, channel 3 ("red") on modern, and all the knobs at 12:00. (Channel volume is probably a tad loud at this point for balance, but it's a good starting point.) Then tweak. If you get the gain above about 2:00, TURN IT BACK DOWN. You don't need as much as you think you do. 3.) Read the manual. 4.) Try a Tube Screamer set to light drive, matched output (so it's the same volume with it on or off), and tone to taste. 5.) READ THE MANUAL. You *will not* understand how to use this amp if you don't. 6.) Another setting I like is channel 2 ("Orange" or "Yellow", depending on what shade of amber your LED is) set to "vintage", gain about 2:30-3:00 (you can run it higher in vintage), treble just past noon, presence about half, more mid than you think you need, and bass about 9:30 (on a Triple). Great for leads. 7.) Did I mention you should read the manual? |

The funny thing is, I didn't really like any of the "demo" settings in the manual.
The thing that the Division guys (eaeolian and noodles) really sold me on, is you have to remember that the EQ knobs' range doesn't change, but the voicing of each mode that they start with is radically different. So, the reason that the bass knob has the range it does is not because that range makes sense on the Modern mode, but rather because it makes sense on the (way less bassy) Raw mode, and if you dial it back on Modern you'll still get kickass tones. Likewise for gain - the reason that you can turn the gain knob up as far as you can is NOT for modern, which can completely fuzz out if you do since the preamp is being driven so hard to begin with, but rather for raw and, to a lesser extent, vintage, which don't begin to saturate until further up in the gain knob's range. Spending some time thinking about how the preamp response changes when you change modes is worth doing - its not three different "sounds" like a Line6 is, but really it's almost three seperate amps mated to a shared EQ. Lately, my go to lead tone has been my strat, in Vintage mode of what woul;d be closest to channel 2 of a 3 channel Recto, with the gain at 12-1:00, treble at just below 10:00, mids at maybe 3:00, and bass at maybe 9:30, with presence at about 9, maybe 8:30. Channel volume is at or near noon, I forget exactly. My Strat's a pretty bright guitar, so this isn't as dark as you'd think, and it's a kickass blues-rock lead sound. |

I had a dual rec
I used the 3rd (or red) channel in modern mode like this (for metal rhythm) Highs - 9-10 o'clockish mids - 2-3 o'clockish Bass - 9 o'clockish (this should be about right) Gain - 12-1 o'clockish (depending on the guitar and pickups) Some pups will yield more gain than others, that's why my gain varied. The ish after each one was because it depends on how hard you pick. you might need less mids or highs because you might pick harder than I do

I do that for rhythm, but I totally dig the less-tight sound for leads.
