Is it possible to repair a speaker...?
I have an old Ibanez GX100 amp, and whenever I turn the volume over 5, the speaker starts to fuzz a lot. Is there any hope for it?

My guess is that it would probably be cheaper to buy a new speaker by the time they diagnose the problem, find the parts required and then the time they spend actually doing the repairwork.

Buy another one if you don't know anybody who can fix this, it's cheaper

Yep, get a new speaker. Speaker repair is quite costly and not worth it unless you've got some vintage speaker that can't be replaced by something better. Get an Eminence Swamp Thang and be happy

First, Make sure it's the speaker. Try the amp with another speaker cabinet, and make sure the speaker is the culprit. "Fuzzing out" can be may different things. Also, if the problem is something like a loose dust cap (that circle of paper in the center of the cone), you can probably reglue it carefully with some contact cement. Let me know what you find out.

Thanks for the help! Well, I checked the dust cap, and didn't find anything unusual. Well, it's ok for home practicing
I don't have to turn it up very much I will get my self a new amp in a near future! Thanks once again ![]() |
