Rivera Knucklehead - Good for metal?
I have an opportunity to grab a Rivera Knucklehead 120w head. I've never tried this amp before, and I'm wondering if it could sound ANYTHING like a rectifier/5150 when playing with the gain. Let me know guy.

The Knuckleheads a great amp if its going for a great price Id do it, however its not going to sound like a rectumfrier or a 5150. Its a little less on the gain, and a little more on the clarity. Guess it depends on what your doin' with it.

It's an absolutely crushing amp! I've been very pleased with mine! IMO it has more than enough gain for me. Tons of clarity and power!! I don't really think it sounds like a 5150 or a Recto, it's defenitly got it's own sound. Lots of aggresive crunch, tons of lows and superb flexability.
But, I highly recommend getting a Rivera cab or maybe a Marshall 1960 cab (which I think complimented the KR100 quite well). You'll need a cab that's tight and punchy as these amps really have a ton of lows to them. I tried mine through a couple of other cabs, my old Randall's and a budy's Recto and it sounded like mud. ![]() |

get a TS7 modded by joe for the chaos mod, and the amp will have enough balls for you in a stomp.

I listened to the sound clips of that amp on the Rivera website and it sounded brutal as hell. Uber gritty... But I haven't had the chance to play any of those fancy looking Engl things everyone sems to like. But I wanted that Knucklehead for a while. And if I could find one for a gnarly price I'd go for it...
Rivera: The Definition of Tone Sample players 4-7 are of the knuckle head... Players 6 and 7 are they guys from slipknot... |

They are really cool amps and will certainly do metal! The K-Tre is supposed to be more aggressive and metal oriented but I've never tried one personally. All Riveras are built like tanks and don't get the recognition they deserve!

Riveras are built extremely well. I'm actually thinking about getting one of these, it's got tons of switching and I think is midi switchable?

Yeah Jason you are correct.
Mick used these on earlier albums (he has that new KR-7 sig now). I haven't played one myself but I've heard good things about pretty much all the Rivera line. Supposed to be pretty reliable and the Knucklehead line can definitely do metal. Hope you can grab it man! Oh yeah, the other thing I've heard about a lot of Rivera amps is that they are LOUD as hell. Supposed to be under-rated wattage levels kinda like Mesa! ![]() |
