A good high gain 50 watt tube combo

under 1000 used is ok but ive come back down to earth and realized that 100 watt tube amp is to much for bedroom and basement jamming

What can I say - I love my Carvin V3. It's 100 watts, but it's switchable down to 50.

dude, there's not really much of a volume difference between 100W and 50W... perceived volume is logarithmic with respect to amplification power, so that you'll need 10 times more power to make it sound 2 times as loud. A 2x12 will also 'feel' louder than a 1x12 combo because of the greater speaker area. You'll also notice great volume differences between different 100W amps...
Volume should not be you're main criterion when chossing between 50W and 100W tube amps...

actually a 2x12 is 6dB louder than a 1x12 at the same "power" level...might be 3dB I don't remember.

Anyway, get a power attenuator it'll fix you right up, I've got a 2xEL34 combo and it still blows me away.

Mine, with a Hot Plate, rules. It's maybe just beyond the upper limit you're looking at, but it's totally worth it.

You could probably get a used Rectoverb for under a grand. I've considered doing that myself.

I don't believe that's a high-gain amp really....

I'd recommend a Randall V2!

-Mesa Nomad 45/55(Drew had one for aeons and got many nice tones out of that). Around 800 bucks used but I've found it on craiglist and e-bay for 650-750.
-Mesa F-50 (a huge sounding combo with great cleans and heavy distortion)
-B-52 AT-212 or AT-112.

Oh, not to mention MESA's DCs...

A little hellp with the Recto: FS: Mint Mesa Rectoverb Series II

Mesa Boogie Mark IV combo

Mesa Nomad 45 2x12. sounds great a low volumes, and when you need the volume, it's there on tap!

also comes with three useable channels, and a power voicing switch in the back, which really tightens things up (and increases the volume).

But if you get a 50 watt instead of a 100 watt, you get power tube distortion earlier on.

Mesa Rectoverb 1x12
Mesa MkIV
Engl Screamer 50

2x12 tube combos are too fucking heavy. Seriously, if you have one, you either have a cart, you're built like Hulk Hogan, or you have multiple hernias and/or hemmoroids from lifting that little fatty.

I'd give a testicle for a 1x12 50 or 60w JSX. Too bad they haven't listened to me and Darren.

That's why I kept with the head/2x12 cab combination, because at least then it's broken up into two pieces.

Well, that and the JSX combo is open back.

You know what sucked? Carrying the 5150 up, then subsequently back down 3 flights of stairs by myself.

Thats the other thing i love about the DC3 i have. its like, roughly half the size and less than half the weight of my old 5150. Plus i got the anvil case with casters. Pushing amps = win.

God I want a Mark IV. And so should you. 1x12 combos on eBay are around what, like $1000?

Have to agree with you about the 1x12 JSX, for the moment I'm making do with the Screamer 50 because Mesa's are a bit too pricy here in the UK.

The screamer is good and covers a lot of ground but I think I need to invest in a boost to tighten things up a bit.
