Jsx vs. Engl blackmore
Im torn between the two. I really love the lead tone of arch enemy, but for rhythm I usualy play death metal like decapitated. Basicaly what im asking is which amp has the heavier rhythm gain. Thanks in advanced.
p.s I will probaly have a tube screamer in front |

ENGL no contest. ENGL is pretty much the gold standard for heavy, tight, brutal, gainy rhythm tones these days.

999dead666 what makes you suggest the savage? From what i herd its a rhythm monster, but im after a smooth creamy lead tone. I can afford so not have an amazing rhythm tone, but but i need that lead tone!
anybody else ate 9 hours of boring uni lecture? |

for me the savage can produce the creamy lead tone your looking for. if its good for rhythm doesnt mean it wont do good solo tone. i tried it with sh-1 in neck and sh-13 bridge and it was great. maybe the sh-1 helped since it has the full sounding to it. you have to take your guitar and try one.

engl hands down
in my last band i played my fireball and our lead player played a JSX. My rythm tone DOMMINATED. Granted his lead tone was fucking amazing. But on a higher spec engl you can use the other channels to get that great lead tone aswell. |

Yeah, if lead tone is the priority, the JSX might take the edge here. It's certainly designed to be more of a "lead" amplifier. Personally, I dislike active EQ amps, and all Peaveys I've played are SERIOUSLY over-gained for my taste, but I was impressed by the sounds I was getting from the one I played.

to be honest if i had to choose 2 amps one for solo and 2nd for rhythm, i would take marshall jcm for solos and engl for riffing and solos too. but the marshall got this sweet harmonies and ringing that it so enjoyable to play solos with one

I use a clean boost in front of the crunch and the Ultra channels on my JSX
and with an MXR 10 band EQ in the loop I can set up the rhythm channel to crush for rhythms (ask Drew he's heard (and played thru) my rig) and well the ultra channel for leads doesn't really need much help, but I find that by using the boost in front I can turn the gain on the head down to say .12:00 noon and that let's me turn down the on board noise gate to say 11:00 which really opens up the Ultra channel and kills a lot of that " compressed' tone the JSX throws at you when you dime every control on it. I've never tried an Engl (on my wish list) so I can't comment on those, I just wanted to point out that you can get a good "fat " rhythm tone and still get a good singing lead tone out of a JSX if you take the time to work with it.

His Charvel-headstock GMC in drop-D through the Ultra channel would own for like Alice In Chains type riffage.
