My BBE experience was this:
At first i thought it was great. then as i upgraded my gear to closer to the sound i wanted, i used it less and less. then i just sold it. I agree with the band-aid statement, but some people swear by them. give it a shot. I've been a hardcore BBE user for almost 15 years and still swear by it for certain applications, but since I got my Mesa Mark IV I have not used it. I agree with zimbloth to an extent that it can be viewed as a bandaid, but to put it in MMORPG terms it's more of a major buff for non-geared out players. If you have the amp that gives you the tone you want, or gets you damn near close, only small tweakes are necessary to get the extra 'oomph' you're looking for, and the BBE, while controllable, is no small tweak.
That being said I will still incorporate it into my rig since I love what it can do to my tone, but instead of treating it as an integral part of my sound I will use it as more of an effect, something I can switch in or out of the chain at will. It never hurts to have options. For now, no bandaids for me. The Mark IV really is that good. "Dude, you need to find the right fucking meds to be on, because you are the most unstable person I know." |

Hehe! Me too! I spent the holiday weekend beta testing Craptard, I mean Vanguard, and really need to get back into a playable game. WoW may be easy and cartoony but it is playable and generally non-retarded.
There's nothing that BBE could do to help Vanguard. (like that segue?) It will still be a complete pile of steaming horse pucky no matter what. |

The other guitarist in my band has a BBE, and he uses it with his Krankenstein.
When he got it we were all like "wow that sounds much better!" Even our drummer, and we all know how deaf drummers are :P Not long after that I managed to borrow one from a mate of mine, got a good play with it at home and at practice. At home it just seemed to scoop out mids and add a lot more treble, even on the lowest setting. But at practice it seemed to help me cut through a tiny bit, but the harsh treble was still there, and I like my mids, so to me my tone was just worse really. So I suppose it really is just down to what amp you have. But if you have an ENGL I really wouldnt bother :P Apparantly they work really well with 5150s though. But i'll stick to my tuner + noisegate pedal straight into my amp for now thanks haha |

Yeah I borrowed a Ts-808 I think it was at the same time I borrowed the BBE off my mate, had a much nicer effect on the sound, and added even MORE gain haha. For the band that I play live with I dont think I need any more gain really, I only have the knob at 12 o'clock anyway. And sadly I cant use my fireball at home cos I only have 1 cab and its locked up at the practice rooms
![]() I need another cab argh >.< lol |
