Behringer FCB1010 Expression pedals - replacements?

Anyone own a FCB1010, How are the Expression pedals on them?

Talking to JJ who used to own one, he said they were plastic/cheaply made. Of course we know JJ is a gear whore so maybe they aren't quite that bad, just bad compared to his crazy setup. but It does have me wondering. (I havent tried one other than the 2 seconds at JJ's house years ago)

I kinda wanna get one for my GSP1101, the idea of two expression pedals on a Midi board is so nice, no other Midi board has two if I can recall. If I end up with a dedicated preamp like the ENGL e530, having two channel switch relays would really help out too.

Benefits of Control 2 = Phantom Power, CAT5 cable, quality-built
Benefits of FCB1010 = Two Channel switches, two expression pedals, Cheap

So, what I was wondering. A) How do you guys think the quality of them are? Are they really bad? and B) Think it would be possible to replace them with Metal pedals? My friend works in a metal shop and could make me two metal ones if I gave him the dimensions most likely, depending on how they are attached. Think this would make them more effective?

JJ is right. they are pretty cheap and have a shitty feel. The board itself is well made though. If you have any friends who are machinists, you can take a pedal to them and have them mill a new one out of aluminum and replace the plastic ones.

HOLY SHIT i didn't even read your whole post.

yeah option B.

EDIT

the two channel switchers is pretty nifty too. I used one to change the channels on my mesa, and the other to change the Dynamic EQ on and off.

I never had an issue with my FCB1010's expression pedals, and I went gigging with it 2 or 3 times a month for three years.

Also, I'd do the "phantom power" mod on that sucker, as well as the UnO firmware upgrade.

Until the Control 2 prices come down the FCb1010 has insane value and moding capability.

I'm fighting this same dilemma. Got my return coming and sure to order an 1101 early this week. I really cant justify the price of the Control 2. Even as bad as Line 6 used to be, their shortboards are down around $100 right now. That is just rapety-rape-rape for the Digitech. And screw proprietary anything. BTW, dont forget there's an expression pedal input jack on the back of the 1101. Could always get ya a nice Ernie Ball/Boss whatever to plug in.

Theres a phantom power mod on the FCB1010?? Holy shit, more info plz. That was the one major reason I was considering the Control 2 actually.

Is there anyone around who can perform FCB mods (professionally)? Like, I plan on just finding one from Craigslist, and I could ship it to someone to do the phantom power + chip mod, then ship it to me. Might be the best option.

It's definitely worth looking at the FCB1010 yahoo! group if you're serious about owning one. There's some crazy mods on there.

I owned one. Great pedal. Only thing I didn't like about it was the range of the expression pedal on it. No biggie since that's dependent on what you use it with. I didn't have it modded. Downfall: it's HUGE! lol. I carried mine around in its original box when lugging to gigs.

Yeah, I've had a bitch of a time finding a pedal bag that'll carry it, but rumor has it that the Fender Cyber Twin bag will carry it. I also think there's a case or two on Rondo's site that'll fit it.

Other than the expression pedals, it definitely is a solid pedal. I still technically own the FCB1010, it's just been at CentaurPorn's house forever since he needs something to control his MIDI rig, and since I got the GCP I have no need of it.

Those pedals are flimsy as fuck though. There's people who gig with them though, I just personally wouldn't trust them since I'm not exactly easy on my gear I throw shit in my car and pile shit on top of other shit and tetris the fuck out of it, so I just wouldn't trust it.

The other option is the Roland FC-300 but those are a lot more money for what is essentially the same board.

ones i was looking at, Lexicon MPX R1, or ART X-15

cheaper, have channel relay switches, onboard expression pedals and can be made phantom power.

It's big but not that big. The Cyber Twin had a ridiculous pedal that went with it, and you can buy the bag that was made for it:

Fender Cyber Twin Foot Controller Bag - DrumZa

Also, for anybody who doesn't like the pedals on this thing, and would like to take care of the size issue... you can kill two birds with one stone like this:

And it looks badass to boot.
