Just a little idea...
What about if the guitar makers have a different name colour? Like the mods = blue MVP = green Builders = ??? Of course this would be only for the makers who have a company or artisans who make a living building guitars... What do you think?

I think it would be a great idea. That way members of this site would be able to tell who the guitar builders on this site are.

Sounds good, what colour? Red or perhaps yellow - something that stands out at least....
(I fancy a unique pink one because its sad to have 1000 posts up without having played a note in years ) While raping a bear in Yellowstone and snorting coke out of a freshly-dead baby's skull, I finally felt that I had found my calling and built a time machine out of Iraqi WMDs and LOTS OF HEMP WHOA. Using this time machine I went back in time and shot JFK from outer ....ing space. It would be. But if it does happen I think Orange would stand out some.

If we were going to do this then there would have to be some pretty strict criteria, like proving you actually build guitars and have clientele and so on. Also we would then ave open it up to all people who build stuff realistically so people who make pedals and pickups might also need inclusion. Would we also want to make you advertise on the site or at least contribute? Put your money where you mouth is, so to speak. This idea is OK and all but I can see it getting messy quickly as well.

![]() This was really like to identify guitar makers (not hardware pickups etc..) so that in a thread it would be easier to identify a luthier when he talks.... Like for exemple in a wood topic etc.... And of course the strict criteria you mention would be very important to provide to be sure that the colour protocole is respected...... |

I think it's a good Idea. Especially for the new users who don't know who does what.
Amber would be cool. The color is a typicla wood color . |

it´s like what they do on project guitar, i think. sounds like a nice idea!
mods should get to decide who is eligible for the "luthier" title. like Aphopis, Sherman, Elysian, ............ and whoever else are full-time luthiers on here :P that should be the cirteria i think. it should be a totally serious business that the person really puts everything into. as for which colour, i dunno. doesn´t matter really, as long as it´s discernable. someone said orange, which would be cool

Eric, one good thing for us, it'll help us determine if a Seller is pimping his product outside the Dealer forum
![]() And, it would allow others to quickly identify a Seller, and to take their opinion with a grain of salt

I Think its a really good idea
Itd be great for everyone on the site to see builders and so on when they get here, help the mods a bit, and just generally help ![]() I agree with the need for strict guidelines, but i think its prettyclear who are and aren't deserving of said colour

I don't know if we really need a separate colour - maybe we could give reputable dealers/luthiers/etc MVP status? It'd be one less thing to impliment and thus far more likely to actually happen

It's probably not a bad plan considering how populated this place is getting. If it doesn't work out for whatever reason it could be reversed so there's nothing to lose (that comes to mind)
![]() I don't quite get the relevance of the video though Too much Toblerone for Patrick???

it's from all the honey content of the toblerone, mixed with the salt particles of the bacon... he's losing it?!

I think offering MVP status to the builders who've shown to be building as a business and not as a hobby is a good idea. We already have MVPs who will be I guess given MVP level 1, and then the builders MVP level 2? I dont even know if we can do that.
EDIT: We actually have a vendor title available. That might be better suited. EDIT2: Tried giving the vendor title to some but it didn't work

Where do you draw the line? Is a guy who built one so-so yet playable custom in his garage a "builder?" What about the same guy, except he now wants to take orders? And, if someone buys one of his guitars, and the thing's damned near unplayable, is that grounds to revoke the "builder" status? It's a slippery slope. I mean, technically, that Deveres or whateverthe....hespellsit dude is a "builder," but should he be accoreded any additional respect for that, when he's telling someone to sell their amps for a $200 Randall, and that his guitars are built to be played in a specific tuning through a specific (shitty) amp at maximum volume, and of course they sound bad if you're doing anything else? Well, the idea is that they wouldn't get builder status until they've established a positive reputation. It's not like we'd be taking applications or whatever, we'd just update the status of members every so often that deserve recognition.
As it stands, I'm starting to wonder whether adding a status for builders/vendors/whatever would actually do any good. I don't want people dismissing the opinions of everyone who doesn't have a different-coloured username - I mean, look at how pissy people get over simple things like rep, it's not like we need any more reasons to bitch
