GDTs (General Discussion Threads)

I was wondering how the site feels about them, and if there would be a big opposition to starting one, perhaps in technology? Or any of the other sections.

General discussion in what sense? Loosely topic specific, I think we can do. Just "talk about anything" is more along the lines of the '100k post thread' which is something we've tried multiple times and it didn't work out well, so that'd be a no.

"Can we pull back the veil of static and reach in to the source of all being? Behind this curtain of patterns, this random pattern generator. So clever. Right here in every home, watching us from a one-sided mirror."

It would be subsection specific, but yes, loosely on topic to that section, but also talk about whatever.

I haven't started one to see, since no one really said if I could or not.

Judging by the lack of input from the mod staff, I can see that it would be probably be treated like the Joke threads that end up getting people banned for months at a time.

Did you read Randy's post?

Basically, you're free to open a "general" thread as long as it stays on topic to the purpose of the section you've started it in. For example, if you open a thread in the Computer/Games section, talk about Computers and/or games.

This site has proven time and time again that it's just not adult enough to have a "whatever" thread. There are a few bad eggs who just like to post stuff that violates the forum's rules and they tend to ruin stuff like this for anyone. I've only been here since 08', but I've seen it more times than can be counted.

Need help with setting up a trem?
Need info on your Ibby?
