At 3.36 in this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WD9UnwTU-z8&feature=related) the guy on the end (Dave Weiner) plays plays 'B, D' in natural harmonics, but I cant find the D!! Fret 4 on the B string is a D#, and it looks like he's around there but he hits a D spot on. His G string sounds a bit flat at 3:30 but I doubt he tuned his whole guitar flat just to hit one harmonic! Help?!?!!

I've been lurking this forum for a while now, and I finally decided to make an account and get in on the action.

Can't get enough of the sevens, I only have one at the moment, but I'm sure that won't last long, lol.

I'm a bit of a youngen at 16, and its practically impossible to find people to talk to about music around these parts, so should be good to hang with you guys for a while, eh? :shred:

does it affect the sound any? or the playability?

Boss DS-1 Distortion

BOSS's most popular compact stomp box gets a thorough stomping on.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Price paid: 77 EURO
 Purchased from: Waltons
Ease of Use: Relatively easy to use. Three controls, tone, level and gain. It's not actually very easy to get a smooth, stand-alone distortion tone from it. See the Sound section for a better explanation of that. The manual is helpful, has some sample tones to use, and gives good directions on the unit.
 Sound: I use this pedal with a Hughes And Kettner Warp 7 head, and a Bogner Shiva. I noticed the tone is extremely trebly once you go past 11 o' clock. Keep it at around 10 or 11 o' clock, and you can get a smooth, bluesy tone with the Gain at around 12 o clock. When the Gain is pushed high, it can get very noisy. Unless you tweak it a lot, you will not get a desirable tone with which you can play with without any other distortion. I primarily use the DS1 as a treble/gain booster for my amps. If you have other effects in your rig, it can be be niggly to decide where to put the DS1. It sounds absolutly rotten if it's placed in front of say, a Wah effect, and sounds extremely horrible if put after any sort of Delay or Modulation effect. Choose wisely, kids.
 Reliability & Durability: I'm pretty sure I can depend on it. It's quite rugged, although I noticed that the Power jack may be susceptible to damage if you don't look down while pedal-tapping. It looks fragile to me, maybe it's just my unit. I would use it for a gig without a backup, reason being is that I don't rely on using the pedal too much while playing, just as a booster. But, if you were to gig with this pedal, make sure you use an AC adapter, or bring a few spare batteries, because this unit really sucks battery life. Make sure you unplug your guitar cable out of the pedal while you are'nt using it.
 Impression: I play a lot of different styles. Mostly metal and blues. For blues, I could use the pedal on its own, but for metal, it's far too fizzly to use without combining it with your amp's distortion. I have been playing over 6 years now, and have a lot of equipment, and on every amp I own, I would not use this pedal on its own. It just simply does not hold its own against a decent Amplifiers distortion. Would I buy it again? No. I would prefer to buy a Tubescreamer, or if you're looking for a stand-alone distortion sound, choose a ProCo Rat. I love the fact it's compact, and the fact it's a handy gain/treble booster. I hate the fact it dosent have a nice distortion sound anywhere past 11 on the Tone control.
Herbert owners AND Powerball owners......
So, this weekend I'm playing in Germany and we've managed to rent a Diezel Herbert and an Engl Powerball. We're probably going to have about 20 minutes to set them up, so any chance of stealing some practical experience/settings off you guys?
We each need:
* Warm but clear clean sound
* Heavy rhythm sound (this stuff is metal, but not totally Djenty, think 'Black Album' tones maybe?)
* Fluid lead sound (With effects loop assigned to kick in Delay)
Also, if anyone can give me some quick pointers on storing sounds on the Herbert, that would be really useful. Just a quick 'Set your sound then press these buttons to store'. It doesn't come with a footswitch so I'm taking my own midi-board.
My favorite band is probably Scar Symmetry and my favorite singer is definitely Christian Alvestam from Scar Symmetry. He oftentimes uses 3 different vocal styles in a song (low death metal vocals, black metal vocals, and clean melodic vocals), all of which he does perfectly. But, in this song by Into Eternity, the singer uses 4 vocal style (the same 3 as Christian plus falsetto power metal vocals) and does them amazingly as well. Wowsie.
I just love this song. :wub:
I guess this is the right forum...
So yeah... I wrote this. I kinda had a train of thought going, but I'm not sure everything connects well... :ugh:
I'm open to anything you may think. :scratch:
---Quote---
To sigh knowing the truth
or rejoice in false hope
often pondered
rarely answered
Let facts flow forth
ignorance has no place in me
truth is what I desire
truth is what I need
No more hiding the pain
don't be afraid to show you feel
let it show
let it be known
I see the wounds
I see the scars
let's fix them
healing for the hurt
This may hurt but-
no, it will
the truth hurts
hiding it hurts worse
One step at a time
what ails you
what is your demon
what plagues you
The sickness made manifest
show your symptoms
tell of your torturous traits
sedative to kill the pain
Numb
unaware
blissful
content
Life returns
as dos pain
worse from lingering
the cycle goes unbroken
Back to where we were
what's wrong
where does it hurt
what happens when I do this
We've found your cure-
no
too much
too hard
Maybe later
increase the dose
kill the pain
let me live
Taking over
thoughts dim
pain ceases
A sudden awakening
worse then before
let me heal you
we know your fix
It won't be easy
difficulties may arise
but you'll be better for it
if you want it...
---End Quote---
