8 string neck into a 7 string body?
I've been having a thought. Dangerous, yes I know...
Is it possible to buy the Ibanez RG2228 necks/bridge without buying the whole guitar? It is my intent to mod the S7 body to fit the neck and hardware of an 8 string guitar. What are your thoughts? Is it possible? Or can I not get ibanez products without buying a complete guitar? Thanks in advance. -Cam Originally Posted by Djpharoah Quote: Originally Posted by TMM Wait, Jesus plays an Ibanez? The RG2228 neck wouldn't fit. It's a much wider neck, and is too big for the neck pocket on the S7.

There is no way you could get an Ibanez 2228 neck without buying a whole guitar. You could try to get some guitar luthier make you one similar to 2228 though.

The cost of buying an 8-string Ibanez < the cost of buying a new 7-string, chopping it up, buying 8-string parts, and hoping it will all come together and play well

i remember seeing someone do this with a 7620 neck and a 6 string RG body and it went through ok, but im not sure how it would go with the 8 string neck on an s7.

the neck of an rg2228 will not work with the strategic placement of the bridge. the bridges placement on the body is carefully calculated so that it will work with a 25.5" scale . the neck of the 8 strings is asssembled for the scale of a 27" which cannot and will not intonate accurately with the bridge stayin in the same place.

Yes, I was planning on routing and adjusting as need be.
But I had completely forgotten about the scale, so thank you for reminding me about that. I have some experience building guitars, what material is the RG body made out of? Having said all that, if I cannot get any parts for this project, it's a useless endeavor. But thank you all anyways. best thing is to if u can get a hold of an 8 string Ibanez rg2228 then go to a custom shop have them make the body, it would probably cost you around 500$ instead of buying an S series at $899 and just destroying it, i know of some guitar builders around here (Ontario) who would have no problem making you a body from scratch, thats the best way IMO.
