Baritone tuning

What do most of you baritone players tune your baritone to? A or B? I am getting a 6-string baritone and am thinking of going with "A" tuning.

Either B or drop A

B-standard or C-standard, been thinking about drop B just for fun. So on a 6string that would be E-standard or F-standard and maybe Drop E just for fun.

Currently in C (it's a 26.25" scale, so not exactly a full baritone), although I'm thinking of raising it to D next time I change the strings.

I tune mine to B: BEADGBE. Yeah, it's a seven-string, but still a baritone and if you use the same gauge strings, you could get the same awesome sound on a six-string baritone.

You can tune it as you want, but "classic" baritone tuning is from B to B and A to A or even E to E (octave lower than standard E).

Oh, if we're including seven string baritones, mine is usually either Bb standard, or Drop C# with a low G#.

why are we talking about six string guitars in the extended range guitars part of the forum?

We've pretty much always counted six-string baritones as ERGs on the boards.

ok, it just strikes me as a bit odd, because a six string guitar does not have extended range no matter how low you tune it, and no matter how long scale you have.
Unless you have like 27 frets or more, and/or tune in like fifths or something.
E-e or B-B it's all the same range, just lower. I'd rather consider a normal sevenstring an extended range instrument than a baritone 6.
ah well, just my

"Extended Range Guitars" refers to guitars that have: scales longer than normal (27", 30", etc.), more frets than normal (27 fret guitars, 33 fret guitars, whatever), and guitars that have extra strings (8-string guitars, 9-string guitars, 16-string guitars, whatever). Scale length may or may not play a role. But a baritone 6-string is considered an "extended range instrument." You may argue that it's an "extended scale instrument," but not "extended range," but that doesn't change what it's referred to.

Uh... sure it does... if you tune, say to 5ths, you're covering more range than standard 4ths. Maybe not be an 'extended range' instrument designed to extend the range (up / down / or both) but it would be an entended range tuning per se.

aah, geez, if you'd have just bothered to read the line under the one you quoted, that's pretty much what I wrote

well, ok, fair enough, but to me, a six string guitar (tuned in 4ths, 24 or less frets) will never be an extended range instrument.
call it what you want.
Make it >30" and tune it low E-e, and I'd ALMOST rather call it a 6 string extended range bass.
still, just my , and sorry if I've driven the thread slightly off topic.
although it feel's somewhat on topic to me

I'm going to post my reply once more and see if you read it this time.

Extended SCALE.

Also a 30" tuned E-E with guitar strings, guitar pickups going into a guitar rig is not going to be or sound like a bass.

Until Chris decides there's enough traffic to warrant a separate baritone 6-string forum, they belong here. They certainly don't belong in Standard Guitars.

Get over it. It's going to be just fine.

We need a new title for this forum, "extended instruments", that will help clear up some of the confusion, this is the 4th time somebody has asked about baritone guitars over here.

aaah, don't we just love internet misunderstandings, I read your post about extended scale, and I agree. I replied to the other post about extended RANGE. nevermind
also, I wrote ALMOST in capital letters for a reason, because I know a baritone don't sound or feel like a bass, or vice versa. (although, i believe it was fender who once did a 6 string short scale bass with two lighter strings, which should almost be as a baritone 6 string guitar, except strings and pickups, and some other small details)
and I fully understand that baritone 6:es don't fit in the standard guitar part of the forum so... as I said, it's just me.
sorry for the ranting and so on.
