Limba use for ERGs?
I have a friend who is a Korina nut, he has at least 8 of them right now. Some old Hamer Vectors, and some strange stuff. I thought it might be cool to do a 7 or 8 with a black limba body, and he told me me that it was NOT a good idea. Evidently he put a heavy gauge set on one of his Vectors, and it managed to pull the bridge posts forward, and sink them into the body more.
I guess it is some pretty soft shit...Is this common? If this happened on a 24 3/4" scale guitar with a set of 11's, Im guessing it might not go over all that well on a 28 or 30" ERG with even heavier strings.Thoughts? |

I think sherman built a 8-string in korina.

i think it depends on the bridge type. hipshot style bridges are fastened by a bunch of screws, so the tension is evenly distributed. floating trems rest the tension on the two posts, so it pulls the posts upwards. TOM bridges are mounted on posts/studs, but the tension is pushed downwards towards the surface of the guitar, so there´s not much pulling going on.
that´s all that i can think of really, so basically don´t use floating trems or post-mounted trems on limba/korina guitars :P

Nothing can possibly be as soft (or softer) than basswood.

Limba is similar to mahogany so I honestly don't see the issue.
