how low would you tune a 25.5" 7 string? the pickups might not sound as good as 7 strings, not designed for the low tunings, but string tensions should be the same... Bb or A standard should be attainable

I would just get the thickest strings you don't need to drill tuners for (if its a locking nut) and tune to F#

two words- 5ths Tuning

You can tune the 6 low to high F C G D A E

I would use somewhere between an 80 and a 70 for the low F. It should work, the other thing I would highly recommend would be to use a wound 3rd string since your 3rd will be the equivalent of your standard "D" string.

Damn Wolfy that tuning looks pretty cool.

My RGA is in this tuning right now, with an 80 on the F. Works really nicely surprisingly, no intonation issues.

I'm doing the 5ths tuning thing (low F to high E) with an Ibanez Mike Mushok MMM1 as soon as I can get the cash and the strings required. I can't wait

I've personally traveled to the Conklin shop (A wooden shed) and played their 25 scale 8 strings. Absolutely beautiful piano like tone.

However these were Conklin guitars so its a different world.

You Can tune a 6 string down that low and have it sound great. Even if it has a floyd rose, actually if you have a floyd it makes it Easier because you don't have to file down the nut. Go get you a set of 7 String strings. Thickness depends on how low.
I did this for Years. Actually for 6 years. My band has had 2 tunings (until I finally started playing 7's) Eb (D#) Standard, and Bb(A#)Standard. I had a RG350EX (the black one with brushed aluminum pickguard) that I had in Bb and I had No problem with the tone. The pickups were stock too. Going lower (especially to F#)it is probably better if you have a longer scale, but you could pull it off with thicker strings. That might not sound the BEST, but if you just want it to fuck around with, and don't care if its not the best sound then do it!

Also, tuning it all the way to Ab will be fine with 7 string strings, just don't use the High E string that comes with it....save it as an extra for your 7 you're getting or something. If you've got the same guitar I think you have, then you probably won't have much adjusting to do on the floyd depending to what tuning you choose. The thickness pretty much even the tension out.
