Couple of of 8's to consider...

I'm thinking of buying myself a new guitar, and I'm increasingly interested in either longer scale 7's or an 8.
Looking on Sam Ash, there's a few that I could afford, and I'd be grateful for some opinions by people who have played the following:

Ubiquitous RG2228 - Not the longest scale, which I've heard some complaining about, but the bridge looks lovely (being used to Lo Pro, I think I'd find it very comfortable.

LTD FM408 - Never had an ESP. I played a fixed bridge 7 once, and found the nexk a little chunky. I'm generally an Ibanez fanboy (love their necks, heel, styling...), but I'm considering other options. Short scale on this, though

LTD SC608 - I played an LTD 607B and quite liked it, so maybe this'd be ok. But the inline headstock might look a bit naff on an 8. Looks ok-ish in pics, but I had a Kramer 7 that had an enooooooooooormous headstock that bugged me a lot. Hipshot bridge seems quite attractive to me - piezo possibilities?

My other option is the LTD 607B. I liked this guitar and was thinking I could tune down very low with this, although this does mean sacrificing highs.
This guitar seems to be quite popular here, too.

Anyhow, if you have anything to say about any of these, I'd be pleased to hear it.

OrsusMetal is a jewel in the rough
There is always that Rondo/Defiant 8 string that keeps popping up. It might become a reality here eventually, which it would be a longer scale and a ton cheaper. Not to mention the hipshot bridge it would be sporting.

I haven't heard any reviews of the new Esp 8 strings, but lots on the Ibanez. As for my actually playing an 8, it hasn't happened. I thought I'd just throw a little bit of my brain on the table for you.

The Steph Carpenter is one of the few nice LTD models out there, I can vouch for it since I was a QC tech for ESP for 2 years. Only guitar I really wanted to buy was the SC607B.
