Making Use of ERGs - post Vids
I've been thinking about going for an 8 string later in the year, I'm fairly set in the idea but I'd like to see some videos of people taking advantage of them to see what they are capable of. I've seen good videos of people playing chapmann stick to good effect, but nearly all the 8 string guitar videos hardly use the extra string if at all or else its just chug, chug.
As for more strings, I've never even seen videos of big range basses really. If you've got any good videos I wouldn't mind seeing them, just to get some ideas and to fuel my gas! |

![]() This one was a little more tasteful from him, but still... And for the original poster heres an example for the high A string alternative: Here's another good 8 string vid: YouTube - 8-string guitarist Don Maloney's "Turn Around" |

I didn't read anything there saying that he didn't want to see ERG's being used for tapping, he just said he's seen Chapman sticks used to good effect.

But what you posted wasn't a guitar it was a touchstyle instrument.

wait, so because i only use my bass for tapping it becomes a touch style instrument, and not a bass?
unless there's something i'm missing here, that warr seems like an eight string guitar to me... and besides, the op just wants videos where the player doesn't just chug along on the lowest string. i think those videos fit the bill.

Can we agree on that the warr guitar isen't a touchstyle instrument, but the guy was using touchstyle technique on it. And let's wait for the thread starter to see if these video was okay or not

Warr make touchstyle instruments that can be played conventionally, similarly Chapman have the Ned Steinberger designed 8 string NS Stick which can be played touchstyle or conventionally.
I think if you want to see what people can do with extended range you would be better off looking at ERB rather than ERG, although Meshuggah use them well. |

Some ERG music in style from them times when people knew no metal.
![]() Saw these videos about 1 year ago in ERG board here. 9 string with some definitely weird tuning. And some nice 8-string guitar music, been posted here before as well.

"Innovative Style Touch-style playing is an innovative art which reaches its full potential on the Warr Guitar Series. On one neck you can simultaneously play lead, bass, and rhythm parts. You can play in an upright or horizontal (guitar-style) position. You can use your favorite techniques such as tap, pick, strum, pluck, slap, or pop; and, you'll love the 24 fret, five-octave range. The possibilities are endless on the Artist, allowing you to create your own unique sound." I guess your right. |
