![]() | Regular 7-Stringer, Interested in 8-Strings Hey guys, Technically, I'm new here. I've been registered for a while so I can search up some stuff (when I got my 7 string) to find out more information. Currently I play an ESP 407 (in Dropped B tuning), have done for around 10 months? All I can say is that I'm in love with it. After reading about the ESP 2008 line-up, and clearing up a pint of drool, I found myself interested in the Stephen Carpenter 8-String customs. I was just wondering... As I was advised not to turn to 8-String as it would just not fit with the style of music I play (Heavy Metal - http://www.myspace.com/excessum616)... What do you guys recommend? How would/could an 8-String benefit me? |

![]() | Awesome, would this mean I'd have to change all of my song's tuning to Dropped F/E? Or is there a way to work around this? Sorry, a bit clueless when it comes to this. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | you can play all of your songs in the same tuning on an eight string, but you can throw in that f# now and again if you feel like it. fixed. eight strings ftw. I'm typing this on my knees with my butt in the air. -Drew Last edited by ShawnFjellstad; 01-10-2008 at 07:14 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

![]() | Switch up one of your 7s and try it out for a bit. Get extra heavy strings and go to a low F# to try it out. The scale length at 25.5 might not be the best for it, but you'll get an idea of what the low pitches would sound if tighter. I write a lot of heavy music and lower ranges just have this BOOM! that really adds to the heavy. Big bottom heavy. I usually tune GCGCGCE so the low G is a half step above or equivalent to a first fretted not on the thickest string of a standard tuned 8 string. Even the Schecter at 26.5 scale length makes a large difference from the 25.5. I'd suggest getting at least an 80 and try that out. If I had superpowers, my instruments would be train wrecks and boulders smashing. It would be heavier than the heaviest of metal. |

![]() | Ah right, so right now my tuning is: B F# B E A C# F# (Bare with me, I have yet to experiment) So to add a higher string to my tuning would be: B F# B E A C# F# B#? How would the lower string work out? F# B F# B E A C# F#? |
