Complainin about the 2228, WHY NOT?
Keep in mind I've never played one but, I already don't like it by the specs. As in the previous forum 27" scale length isn't adequate. However, I also think all sevens should be 27" SL. 25.5 in good enough for C and(a lil sloppy for my taste) B but not for A or G. So i could maybe (just barley) see how possibly 27" might work for F but common for E or (dear god!) D? These days Ibanez should always be looking ahead B/c we just keep dropping the tuning lower and lower. And to all of you who where talking about the 27" on the 8 string be a good move b/c they might get more people to buy one as opposed to a 30" or 29", i Just don't think it would make a difference. I don't think anyone who didn't want a 8-string already(and 8's have always had a varying SL) was like "hmm, I'll drop 1500 on this guitar for me to try out this "8-string" these kids speak of." And this whole 808 thing, I guarantee it's just a glorified 45DC i talked to the emg guy when I was building my 8(never completed) and he said the 45dc was very similar to the 85 but in a 4.5" casing and emg's wed site says the 707 is similar to the 85 so, cutting corners making money??????? And I'll end with these thoughts: when i go to get an 8 i'll build my own or get a custom made one. I don't mean to offend or cause problems just being a douche and letting out my concerns.

I am the one you think you see at the darkest of nights I have yet to reconcile the thoughts within myself for still I am one with the dead Oh, sanguine blood of thy corpse Quench my thirst and stain my skin Oh, how ironic it is to feel so alive when you cease to exist... How do you know the 27 inch scale length isn't adequate for the 2228? You've never played one so you don't know what it even feels like. Having Ibanez "looking ahead" to lower and lower tunings doesn't make much sense either. Shouldn't all 6 string guitars also be 27 inch SL then? A lot of bands use 6'ers downtuned.
It's great that you talked to your EMG guy and got that info, but it's been common knowledge that both of the pickups are voiced similar to the 85. We've also got the 81-7. EMG probably didn't see a huge market for 7 string and later 8 string pickups so they used their already existing housings. Smart business move using existing molds and housings instead of building new ones, causing higher costs. |

The main problem with everything you say is that there are a bunch of people on here that have actually played / own the guitar and it seems like everybody that's actually touched one loves them

I tried one and I agree, the scale is too short if like me, you like good tension AND thin string. If bigger string is not a problem it works fine for F# or F (not lower).
For me the biggest let down is the price tag, far too high for what it is. Bloody Murder #5 |
