i've never played a guitar with fanned frets but i did play a 5 string bass with one and it was amasing. I the low b had the perfect tension and it was seriously an amasing thing to play. When i order a second 8 from mike its almost sure to have fanned frets.

I don't think the scale difference between highest & lowest strings is very meaningful unless you're specifying the fretboard width and one of the scales as well.

I prefer judge the amount of fanning by the angles of the lowest & highest frets, which I generally aim for a maximum of 45° or less.

(fortunately that Fret-find 2D app gives the angle of each fret )

I generally agree with this and tend to think "the more the better" for most situations, but I can think of one situation where I'd be happy with as little as .75" of fan - that's for a regular 6-string guitar.

Pretty much the only thing I like about short-scale Gibsons (Les Paul, etc.) is the mellow tone & easy bend-ability of the high E strings, but I really don't like anything less than 25.5" for the low E string. So a good 6 for me would have a 25.5" to 24.75" multi-scale.

I doubt my fingers would notice such a subtle fan, but I think the effect on tone would be quite noticeable & worthwhile.
