![]() | Strings on the side of the fretboard How hard would it be to have strings on the side of the fretboard. Obviously, there are a lot of problems with the idea. However, it would allow for much easier playing with the thumb, especially with wider fretboard, and also easier drones. I was thinking maybe one or two additional strings on the side of the fretboard. I just spent all my money on an amp, and am far away from having enough spare cash to build something custom, let alone something this custom. anyone know something similar, maybe exotic instruments, maybe already done. problems (tension, pickups, frets) ideas on how you'd even play it (using picks seems to be problematic, classical the thumb wouldn't be to bad, hammer-ones would be a possibility) head designs? bridge (i like hardtail, and tremolo would seem way too hard for side strings)? anyone think it's an absolutely horrible and unplayable design, and why? |

![]() | I thinks it like "bass neck" or somthing. but its like having bass notes on the back of the neck so you can harmonize with the back of the neck pad. like a roll out piano. Threadkiller |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | JAMBASS (a.k.a. JAMwithmenowBASS!!!!) You play the synth notes with your thumbs and play the guitar with your fingers. I knew a bass player who had one. It was actually pretty functional and very cool. If you want extra notes on the side/back of the neck, you could just slap one of those puppies on your neck. I know it's not the same, but then, well, there is nothing I've seen like what the original post suggested, and such an instrument would seem highly impractical for a vast majority of players, so there it is. |

![]() | well a nine string itself highly impractical for the vast majority of players, to my defense. :p With a six string(and even my seven to some extent) I can throw my thumb over the neck. I wanted to be able to do something like that with a nine string. That JAMBASS is pretty damn tempting, though, in lieu of my highly expensive, impractical guitar. I don't know that much about midi and synth, though, so I'd have to read up. I wonder if there is a way you could build that into the neck, not really a fan of the colors or adhesive on a guitar. (by chance any thread on JAMBASS, since I couldn't find any with search) |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I've seen these before, but now I think it might be just what I need. Audio and MIDI out is sweet! I just wonder how programmable it is. Either way, at $200, it won't break the bank if it isn't exactly what I was expecting. .......hole burning in wallet........ ![]() |
