Question to luthiers!

Guys if 8 string guitar will be 30" scale, and I will put 0.68 for F# it will be good? Or for 0.68 F# scale must be longer?

.068 will be good for F# at 27" scale so at 30" it'll be more than enough, even for F.

I'd argue that a .068 would still be a bit floppy at 27". I'd think it would be more ideal at 30" though....

Exactly coz on 2228 it sounds like

I don't want to say that 2228 is bad or so......just it needs more thick gauge for F# on 27"

the 2228 come with .064 wich is too light IMO .070 would be ok for me (I tried one on the new Spider Valve and it sounded OK, the .064 wasn't overly loose for some reason). The Meshuggah boys use .070 on their 30" scale and tune to E for many songs with great result, so .068 for F# would be good, even a bit tight if you like light strings.

I can manage F# at 25.5" with 70 and have decent/good results, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

A .068 string tuned to F#1 at a scale length of 30" gives 16.9 lbs of tension or slightly less than a .046 tuned to E2 at 25.5" (17.5 lbs). So it should be ok depending on how much tension you like on your strings.
