Why would that be?

I know Durero has a 6" fan on his guitar- the only 'problem' I could possibly see would be if Khaler doesn't make their fanned trems have enough range appropriate for the fan of your choice.

You've got your eyes closed
You look so pitiful now

Your body encrusted with ash
Breath heavy with toxins
Hair singed and matted
Clothes frayed and burnt

Eddie Loves You is a jewel in the rough
Wes Lambe builds his with a 28.75-25.4" fan...no frets are entirely vertical, but the 9th is closest.

I think the problem many would have with more than 2" fan is with the bridge. Just use individual bridges!

I say if you're going to go through the trouble of fanning, don't make it subtle.

BTW, I think that if your aim is to make this an economical instrument to be marketed to metal players, fanning the frets wouldn't be worth the extra cost. Do it as an upgrade and have a base model with a rather long scale length (29, 30"?) and regular fretting.

Personally, I'd probably want something like a 28 5/8" - 25 1/2" fan. 30" - 25 1/2" sounds like a neat idea, too, but I don't know how practical or how appealing to most people a fan that big would be. Somewhere between 5 and 7 for the vertical fret seems about right. For non-fanned, I'd say 28 5/8" just for the fact that I feel 30" might compromise the higher strings, though that's just my speculation, and if I'm wrong about that, then 30" would be great!

The fan is 4" on my current prototype, but you're absolutely right that there's no special 2" limit for fanning.

My own guideline is that I limit the angle of the first and last fret to no more than 45° from perpendicular to the strings.

I definitely wouldn't consider an 8-string with anything less than 30" for the lowest string. So using my 45° guidelines I'd probably go for something like this:

FretFind 2-D

30" - 24.75" multi-scale with the 8th fret straight and 1st and 26th frets at about 40°

my 2¢

Looking forward to seeing what you make Jammy!

That multi-scale acoustic is fantastic!

Assuming 40° isn't too tough to barre or do other chord shapes over, I'd play that guitar

Bassies7string is on a distinguished road
Conklin uses 25" -27 3/4" for F tuning. I copied that and it works for me. I made the 9th fret the straight one.

I'd do 25.5", but thats because i'd want it tuned with an extra high string instead of an extra low string. (ADGCFADG).

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.
