Attention guitar builders: Why hasn't anyone made a 14 string yet?

Here's my dilemma:

I love seven string guitars, but I also love the sound of a 12 string.

The only plausible solution:

Someone needs to manufacture a 14 string guitar. As far as I know, no one has ever made one, (if they have, I would love to see a pic

) and I think this particular innovation is long overdue.

Any thoughts?

Ibanez has made a couple of custom 14-string guitars for the guys in Korn, but 14-string bridges aren't available to the general public, so anyone wanting to build one would have to kludge together a bridge from 12-string parts or incur heavy custom machining costs.

Have you noticed the unpopularity of 7-strings? Now, imagine the probability of a 14-stringer coming out. Next to nil.

I hate all of the bias against seven string guitarists. That's why I love this site. I play a seven string because it feels more natural to me, NOT because I want to be KoRn. (In fact, I believe that Meshuggah was using seven strings long before KoRn was, but I digress....)

I'm just going to see about having one custom-made, even if it is "only a novelty".

Incorrect my friend. Korn has them by over 5 years.

KoRn: Formed in 1992/1993 (depending on who you talk to)

Meshuggah: Formed in 1987 as a three piece, and used seven string guitars on "contradictions collapse", released in 1991.

So, by my count, Meshuggah has KoRn beat by two years, but who really cares anyway. KoRn destroyed alot of the seven string guitar's modern credibility by sucking so much.

They just wouldn't sell. I'm sure there are 14 strings around.
I've had an electric 12 tuned to B but I found it problematic because of the amount of room the strings need to move, the low B's hit each other a bit.
It doesn't seem such an issue on acoustics tuned low because of the playing style.

I think I may be caught up in the whole asthetic of the idea...a 14 string guitar would look awesome and play even better, if made properly. Maybe a 12 string baritone might do the trick, but again, nobody makes one.

Meshuggah first used 7-strings on a couple of tracks found on the NONE EP that was released in 1994. Yes, CC was released @ 1991, but they were still using 6-strings at that time. Nowadays, you can buy CC & NONE on one re-issue CD.

Head and Munky of Korn began using them shortly after their previous band, L.A.P.D, released WHO's LAUGHING NOW? in 1991. The group originally tuned to D, but with their new 7-strings, they transposed those songs down to A for the live show.

So, I was wrong....Korn beats them by only 3 years, not 5. I RULE!

That 14 string guitar they made for Korn was the K-14. They used it on untouchables, track number 9 I believe. Head was in guitar world with it.

i was planning on buying a 14 string from veillette guitars, but i didn't like the body shape to much.

yeah korn used the 14 strign on alone i break ..it was a double neck with the 14 and 7 munky and head both had 1
