Sound comparison ERG vs. ERB

I was wondering, on the higher notes of an ERB, does it sound like a guitar? And can you play guitar parts on them? Besides scale length and tuning, how do they sound in comparison?

imo the highend on my six-string bass sounds tighter and more piano-like than the highend of a guitar but you can definitely play guitar parts on it.

Wouldn't it be too low for most guitar parts?

once you go past the 12 fret you're back in normal guitar territory so it's not much different notewise. The basic sound is different though.

Because of the longer scale length of most extended-range basses (usually 35"+), they do have more of that piano-like attack and sustain. The electronics are also different... bass pickups tend to be lower output (because the strings vibrate more) and focus on clarity and articulation.

I have the 3rd fret high E string G on a guitar as my open high G on my 12-string bass. It sounds very full and thick , yet clear and less " tinny" than it's guitars 3rd fret ,high e string counterpart.
I don't think it is a question of ERG or ERB, but what strings you use.

On a side note, S.I. T. has informed me my strings are getting closer to being available in a nice S.I.T. package.
So 24"-30" scales can use the same string and pretty much get the same tone at all scale lengths between 24" and 30".

Therefore making an ERG an ERB?
