Idea for an 8 string tuning...
It's late, and I had another revelation...
Has anyone tried this? E (bottom string on a bass) AEADGBE Would be great for both heavy riffing, and adding basslines to chords.

i didnt think to apply it to an 8 but i know TDW also does a double dropped tuning on his 7 with the lowest string being G (i think)

I've used a similar one on my sixes that goes CGDGBE. Same principle (the intervals between the top strings stay the same, but the bass strings are tuned in fifths), but lacks the range and super-low notes from TDW's version. |

EAEADGBE tunings seems like it would be pretty cool. It would just be drop A with an added low E. There's lots of possibilities there.
Dark Wolf's tuning does seem pretty cool. Though I have no idea how he manages it on 25.5" scale length with the strings he uses. I'm way too heavy handed. |

^ It's the tuning that Romeo mentioned that TDW uses. (TDW is abv. commonly used here for Dark wolf's name)

I was thinking more Meshuggah-style 'drang' combined with serious basslines over chords, but it has that advantage too!

The Dark Wolf approved tuning is Drop C with an added low F. So from low to high it goes like this (F,C,G,C,F,A,D).

If you read the thread, you'd know. Since it's been mentioned like 4 times in this thread: FCGCFAD. I really like it. When I've played with him before on two guitars using that tuning, I almost never touch the low F string (it's REAAAAAAALLLY low). I think the low F sounds great clean, but not nearly as good distorted (unless you have another guitar playing higher parts over it which me and TDW always did). He could post up some of his acoustic songs (well, they aren't acoustic. They're just using the piezo) to show how his tuning sounds, using the bottom 4-5 strings. TDW has told me several times that he very rarely plays the F string open. He generally plays it from the 2nd fret and up.

If I had an 8-string I would probably tune it to C standard with an added low and high, G-C-F-Bb-Eb-G-C-F. I don't really like how notes below A sound distorted, so this would be a good compromise.
